Today we’d like to introduce you to Thai Xayavong.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I didn’t have much time spent with my parents. I just mostly watched movies and played video games like a normal kid. But I’ve always admired movies and how they’re made. It fascinated me and I was hooked. It was my only form of entertainment, the only thing keeping me company. I then started to get into photography, using my phone to take pictures and even make videos I used to post on my old YouTube channel. Recently, I’ve gotten my first DSLR and decided I want to turn this into a profession. I want to make videos and films. Photography as a side job. That’s the dream I want to live.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The only struggles I’ve had is lack of motivation and lack of self-confidence. It’s something I have to work on and it really affected me. One time this person reached out to me asking if I charge for pictures but I was too afraid to reply. I always miss opportunities that should’ve been taken, but I’m really trying to work on it. Other than that, my parents have been really supportive of this journey.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would think that success is finally achieving your goals and being happy with your journey. Success doesn’t have to mean, making a lot of money or being popular. I’d call it a success even if I just completed a small video that I am happy with. When you want to be successful, you should look at your goals, not others. You should live your dreams, not others. Do whatever makes you happy because what’s the point of living another person’s life?
