Meet the Crew of the Second Thought Podcast

We’d like to introduce you to The Second Thought Podcast.

Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Second Thought Podcast (TSTPC) was created by a group of childhood friends (Kevin Paul, Justus Kammerer, James Jones (JJ), and Myles Kiett) wanting to provide an outlet for cultural, ethical, and political conversation while keeping thoughts organic and unbiased. We believe that we currently live in a period where sensitivity has increased, and a differing opinion results in mass disapproval. TSTPC aims to be a safe space for reasonable, coherent opinions.

The main influence of TSTPC was Black Journal, a television series spearheaded by William Greaves, which spoke on news from the black perspective. The intimacy, bluntness, and contrasting discussions provided an interesting take on how diverse we can be.

Another influence was also a 2016 Trump/Clinton presidential nominee debate between Kevin (a liberal at the time) and Justus (a conservative at the time), which almost resulted in the end of a 14-year friendship due to differing opinions. After easing tensions, we decided to create TSTPC to discuss and debate ideologies.

Since then, we’ve discussed a large range of topics such as maintaining nutrition, defining masculinity vs femininity, and most recently, inviting guests to give their spin on our topics.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Every road started off as a bumpy path! TSTPC experienced the same growing pains as other businesses once COVID struck. Timelines and schedules were in disarray and The Second Thought Podcast went on hiatus for 2 years. The main catalyst that assisted us in re-establishing our brand was our newest member, Myles. Myles currently serves as our Creative Director while stationed overseas in Hawaii.

Another obstacle, as you can tell, is our time difference. We’re all adults with responsibilities that live at least an hour away from one another, which limits the contribution we can provide to the podcast. Either way, we strive to remain consistent with our weekly episodes.

The final obstacle we’ve dealt with recently is ensuring we understand the identity of our brand. With 4 unique minds, there is a lot of room for contrasting ideas that may not contribute to the identity of who we are. We are constantly reminded of what we can and can’t handle, but that’s the beauty of business!

We’ve been impressed with The Second Thought Podcast, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Second Thought Podcast (TSTPC) is a company that specializes in providing communication for cultural, ethical, and political conversation. The competitive advantage between our podcast and others is our 4 cohorts that provide their own unique spin on topics. When a conservative, liberal, theist, and Christian discuss femininity and masculinity, what do you believe is said?

TSTPC provides weekly episodes on all platforms (Spotify, Youtube, Apple Podcasts, etc.) that contain everything you’ll want to see. We can go from Young Nudy to Gun Rights at a moment’s notice, and that is what our listeners love about us.

Primarily, we are most proud about how unique we are as a team. We’re from Redan, Lithonia, and ClayCo and that’s something we won’t hide or shy away from. From our episode covers to the way we mix music between each transition, Atlanta emulates for all to see.

We’d like readers to know that they can message The Second Thought Podcast at TSTPCATL on Instagram and we’ll read their questions, comments, or topics live. We’re also music lovers, so any indie artists that have something to show our audience, we’d be happy to include them within one of our episode transitions.

How do you define success?
Success defined at The Second Thought Podcast is influencing one person to think twice about a topic.

Our goal is to make yourself question the belief that you have and to ask if you commit to it through listening to our discussions.
