Meet Thom Gonyeau of Mountain View Group in Inman Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thom Gonyeau.

Thom – please kick the story off for us.
Mountain View Group is a 36-year-old company. It was founded in upstate NY and we opened our Atlanta office about 20 years ago. Now, Atlanta is our hub and the company is run by business partners  Stephen Pruitt and myself. Mountain View is a creative services and media production company. Our roots were in media production, which gave us a tremendous foundation in both storytelling and rigorous execution. Today, we are a full-service creative and communications agency which includes design services, executive presentations and speeches, building social communities, producing media content and commercials – in both traditional and digital media. We work with leaders at some of the most revered brands – GE, The Coca-Cola Company, Raytheon, Alcon, Newell Brands, CSM Bakery Solutions. We’ve also been privileged to work with some smaller companies or not-for-profit organizations in Atlanta, such as Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum, Central Atlanta Progress, and Atlanta Bicycle Coalition. Because we work at the intersection of design and storytelling, we are, essentially, creative problem solvers. Our work is award-winning and our team is super hard-working and client-pleasing. In the end, if you get up every day and love what you’re doing, love the category you work in, are passionate about executing for clients, and you work in Inman Park on the Beltline, how bad can it be, really?

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is not a smooth road, nor is entrepreneurship for the faint of heart. On the client side, we work with some of the biggest brands and that comes with a high demand on rigor, flawless execution, and results. Is that always easy to achieve? No. But, it’s why we went into business. If you look at the numbers, not every year is “puppy dogs, rainbows, and unicorns”, but we’re fortunate to have a solid base of Tier One clients who keep us busy. As a small business, we need to keep our employees engaged and motivated because turn-over is costly. We need to constantly find new business that is a right fit for our skills and talents – and finding new customers is an on-going focus area. Our ability to deliver time and time again is what will help us win the trust of other clients. We need those successes to grow… as an agency, for our employees, to keep us challenged, to always be learning. We’ve been at it for 36+ years. We’ve seen all the ups and downs you can imagine. But we’re still here.

Please tell us about Mountain View Group.
Mountain View Group is a creative services and media production company. Most of our work falls in the corporate communications arena – that is, working with companies to help them communicate effectively to internal and external audience. We help them engage their constituencies. We also produce television commercials, build social communities, write speeches, design executive presentations, deliver content for meetings, produce videos.

Essentially, is there is a communications challenge that can help address a larger business need, we’re there to help – in traditional and digital realms. Because our roots are in filmmaking, we are expert storytellers. Every brand has a story to tell and we help them unleash it, focus it, and achieve desired outcomes. Because we’ve produced stories around the globe, we’re also known for our attention to rigorous execution. That means, we have our clients’ backs. We want our customers to look good and we do everything in our power to make that a reality. We’re award-winning – some 500+ industry recognitions – and that’s most meaningful because we love to share those accolades with our clients. As a whole, we take great pride in delivering for customers and earning their trust, friendship, and repeat business. That is the symbiotic relationship in the client-services industry. A lot of companies say this, but what truly sets us apart is that we have a long-standing, dedicated team who, in the end, don’t want to disappoint. We dig deeper, understand more, push the boundaries of creativity and quality, and keep our client objectives front and center. And we mean it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I love the outdoors. Nature is what grounds me and reminds me to breathe. My favorite memory from childhood is camping in the beautiful Adirondacks in upstate New York. I can smell the pine, must, damp welcoming of a rustic cabin. I recall swimming in cold, deep lakes and hiking well-worn trails. It was the epitome of connected to the present and disconnected from distractions and that seems so special given today’s reality.
