Thomas Pickens: Thomas Pickens co-founded Premier Innovative Technologies with Raymond Alexander in 2013 to provide clients with innovative technology and software business solutions. In 2015 Raymond and Thomas renamed the company Chimera Innovations, which represents the multiple areas of technology the company specializes in (Software, IT, and Web Design/Development). Though Thomas has been programming professionally since 2007, his passion for technology goes back much further. While attending HBCU Albany State University, Thomas begins programming portions of a web portal for the American Medical Association. It was here that he was able to gain the knowledge that allowed him to create his first custom solution for Southwestern Homecare, LLC. Thomas found that he had a knack for finding deficiencies in a company’s everyday tasks and in discovering innovative ways to leverage technology to streamline those time consuming processes.
Raymond Alexander: Raymond Alexander stands at the forefront of the fastest moving technology industry trend: hybrid cloud services. He’s spent the past few years evangelizing an industry-wide shift to not only the cloud but both on-premise with cloud and has helped position Chimera Innovations, LLC as a leader in the public hybrid-cloud space. A calculated risk-taker with deep tech industry knowledge, Raymond has championed hybrid-cloud services to his enterprise and consumer customers; his channel incentive models have motivated hundreds of partners locally to embrace the hybrid-cloud. Raymond is also recognized for ensuring that current clients are all utilizing leading technologies through our programs that are fueling the industry-wide transition in both the public and private cloud.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been far from smooth. Raymond and Thomas both have technical backgrounds, not a business. One of the earlier challenges was balancing running the business and doing the work. This caused extremely long hours and STRESS! Due to this challenge, they quickly realized the importance of having good reliable people working for them. This also proved to be easier said than done.
They don’t realize how hard it is to find good people until they were the ones doing the hiring. Even after finding someone qualified, the new challenge was keeping that person happy and motivated. Thomas and Raymond started offering full benefits and even paid half of the cost. They also provided the ability to own a stake in the business after being with the company for a certain amount of time. They found a trustworthy office manager to help with the day to day business task, allowing for Thomas and Raymond to focus on being creative and advancing the business’s technologies.

The Chimera (ki-meer-uh), according to Greek mythology, is a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. It was often depicted as a lion with the head of a goat arising from its back and a tail that ended with a snake’s head. Over time, the term chimera has evolved to describe any mythological or fictional animal consisting of body parts of various other creatures.
