Meet Three Panels Press of Atlanta, ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Three Panels Press.

Hi Three Panels Press, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Three Panels Press started as a small thought in Jhazzy Jhane’s mind. Jhazzy wanted a magazine that accepted written and visual art, but she did not act on it immediately. It was at least a year later when she brought it to fruition. Three Panels Press came to be in July 2024. Jhazzy was asking a friend group of poets (she met them during a retreat in Seattle run by Ari B. Cofer and Caitlin Conlon) about ideas for a magazine name and niche. Caitlin shared a magazine with her that was related to music. Jhazzy was sad because she loves music and thought music would’ve been a great idea for her magazine, but she did not want to take their idea. The sadness did not last long, though. Jhazzy remembered that she loves art history since 2019 when she studied abroad and her amazing art history professor expanded her view of art. So, she decided to base her magazine on themes surround art history. She chose the name Three Panels Press because she likes triptych paintings, which are paintings with three panels. Then, her friend Lola joined the team. Lola is also an art lover. From there, the magazine has continued to grow, with Corinna and Tyler as team members, and several people submitting. The number of submissions continues to grow each issue! We are currently working on our 4th issue.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been a work in progress. The team is always considering ways to better communicate, drawn people in, connect with the community, make Three Panels Press better, etc. It’s been a lot of trial and error with how many issues to have a year, how long we need for creating an issue, how to best support contributors and the team, designing the magazine, and more. We are always looking to improve and grow. With us being less than a year old, we still have a lot of work and growing to do. However, we are in a great place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Three Panels Press is a vibrant literary magazine that carves a unique niche at the intersection of art history and ekphrastic poetry. Our publication is a celebration of creativity, offering a platform where the visual and the verbal coexist and converse. By focusing on the rich dialogue between art and literature, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation of both forms.

At Three Panels Press, we invite submissions of poetry, prose, photography and art that engage with our core themes. Whether through the written word or visual imagery, contributors are encouraged to explore the evocative power of art and its capacity to inspire narrative and reflection. Our magazine seeks works that not only respond to art but also illuminate its historical and cultural contexts, providing readers with a multifaceted experience.

We are committed to showcasing diverse voices and perspectives, understanding that every piece of art and literature brings its own story and significance. Three Panels Press is not just a magazine but a community where artists and writers can share their visions and where readers can discover new connections between different artistic expressions. Join us in this journey of exploring the dynamic relationship between art and literature.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love that Atlanta has a great deal of artists and creatives. There’s always someone new to meet and be inspired by. Sometimes, living in one place means seeing the same people or having the same kinds of events. Getting out of the city or being online helps to connect with more people.
