Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Hart.
Tia, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I pretty much started young around the age 12 or 13. I became really interested & invested in the internet and entertainment production at first. My first major role in it was producing & creating content for my middle school News Show, which aired during lunch. The excitement I experienced being the one to tell all my peers the new entertainment news for each day went from being a class assignment to a hobby, and eventually a goal of mine. My secret weapon was the internet and I always managed to assist & network with entertainment industry professionals no matter my location.
Currently, my clients within the Atlanta area consist of the Branding & PR Development of Atlanta based Film Director Mark K. Buddington, who is currently working on a series called “Schemin”, Executive Produced by Ray J & Virtual Operations with a Georgia Real Estate Company, Keybridge Capital Investments.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth transition in my career- it never is when you’re an Entrepreneur. Add to the fact I also balance being a wife & mother of two young boys for the past seven years. There are three major struggles I have never forgotten. They made me who I am today and make great stories. I may even write a book but who knows.
The first big obstacle was when I got my biggest project at the age of 16. Being so great at internet marketing & promotion, I landed a Distribution position with the one & only Rocafella Records. My mother was so proud of me & as a huge fan of Dame & Hov, you can imagine the ego I had in High School being able to provide my peers with free merch & flyers. When the fall of the label happened, it distorted my dreams. After it happened, I lost contact with everyone in New York & the local artists was losing faith in me & the so-called record label I had. I ended up turning away from my dreams of running a label. Time passed, I graduated, & somehow ended up being an event promoter. I always wish I never lost faith in myself because I was accepted into St. John’s University in NY- & didn’t go.
My 2nd biggest obstacle was health issues after giving birth to my boys starting at age 27. In 2013, I was faced with a large DVT (blood clot) 2 weeks after giving birth to my first son. For almost three months, I struggled with walking, depression, insomnia, practically everything that could go wrong with a woman after giving birth. My motivation to continue as an Entrepreneur, in general, was all gone. Then again in 2015, I would once again face the same traumas from another DVT after giving birth to my second son, 12 weeks later. This time, I faced postpartum depression and an even larger clot in the opposite leg & in the groin.
I don’t know how, when, or what pushed me back into following my dreams again, after any of these situations that affected me so deeply. These particular struggles caused a battle within myself over everything from self esteem, friends, & new anxieties. I always found myself asking, “why should I quit now?”
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My brand is myself. Everything I’ve experienced made me who I am so in 2017 I decided to just brand myself. Tia Hart Communications came about because I’ve self-taught myself just about everything I know and in the middle of all the crazy stories, I was able to obtain my Bachelor’s in Communications Degree.
I specialize in Branding & PR as well as Creative Management. I work with small businesses, entertainment industry professionals, and of course, indie artists. Small Businesses usually hire me to help strategize a plan for their social media campaigns. Entertainment clients consist of label owners, producers, film producers & even radio personalities, where the focus is always organizing their web presence (branding) and helping them obtain press, with indie artist clients, it’s different. I now do more creative control, data-driven marketing, & music cataloging.
I’m most proud of my clients. Seeing & being apart of their success is my success. I currently work with Film Director Mark K. Buddington out of Atlanta, who is set to start filming a new TV Series that is Executive Produced by Ray J. I work with Billboard charting, Carolina artist Colonel Loud (known for making hit music with Atlanta phenom producer, Mr. Hanky). His label Derty North Entertainment has put me as an in-house Music Coordinator & I’ve watched Colonel grow & assisted since the rise of his Certified Gold single “California”. My newest project is assisting the team with the West Coast Legend, Kurupt. I’m proud of that because he & his manager reside in California & it’s amazing to know they trust me with his web presence tasks!
Lastly, I recently became President of the Raleigh/ENC area for the Shes Still So Dope Society which is based in Florida. It’s a purpose-driven organization full of women across the nation ages 30 & up with the common goal of networking & supporting one another, creating our own lanes & our own seats at the tables of many industries. I’d also like to note that I’m in real estate & assist in an Atlanta based company called Keybride Capital who is run by an amazing woman named Kia Lee and at the same time, I also help run operations in Charlotte with another company We Buy Homes Charlotte.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
For me, I don’t believe there’s been any luck or bad luck. Everything happens for a reason and we’re given opportunities all the time. It’s our choices that give it the turn-outs we receive. I run a small company called Taylored Hart & I focus on teaching people as I learn about meditation & appreciation our thoughts & how our minds work. The brain is powerful and the thoughts we have can make or break any situation we face. The struggles I mentioned earlier weren’t bad luck. They were already written & placed in my path. My choices are what got me to where I am today because I could’ve gave up in High School.
