Meet Tierra Destiny Reid of TDR Brands International

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Destiny Reid.

Tierra Destiny Reid

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Tierra Destiny Reid. I was born in Albany, New York, and raised in Decatur, Georgia. I am the oldest of two girls, and my mother had me at 17. She was a full-time entrepreneur, so I was around it all the time, and it was just a natural part of our lifestyle. My mom always gave me little jobs to do to help out, so I was used to earning my cash at a young age. When I started college at the University of Georgia, I had a traditional job, but I also started my very first LLC while in college. I rented booth space from a local barbershop since men were my core customers for seasonal gifts, and I paid a friend as a contractor to secure deposits while I was in class.

That gave me great inspiration to believe in myself that I could start a profitable business later. After graduation, I accepted a position as a corporate executive as an assistant buyer, learning sales and marketing, assisting with multi-million dollar sales strategies, and understanding customer cycles and journeys. I enjoyed it, however, I knew there was more, and I still had that bug and yearned to work for myself. After a corporate merger and company-wide layoff, I accepted the pink slip. I opened my first brick-and-mortar consignment boutique in 2009 and launched TDR Brands International. I loved it!!! I held regular events for the community, but I did experience burnout as a mom of two and as a military spouse. At the time, it was a lot because I didn’t have a ton of help at the store.

I experienced burnout in my relationships, and my health suffered. After my very first trip to the Grand Canyon, I decided just to pause, exhale, and surrender. I felt like God was telling me to become my project, take care of myself, and heal from the inside out. So, I went on an intentional journey to face my past and heal from things that I had not dealt with or faced, and along this healing journey, I started to host healing retreats and transformation retreats in South Africa. I am also a holistic business consultant for other entrepreneurs, and I love helping them amplify their voices through interviews and media production.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Instead, it’s felt more like navigating an obstacle course—fun, adventurous, and a constant exercise in creativity. Yet, it’s equally grueling, unpredictable, and incredibly challenging at times. Some of the biggest obstacles I’ve had to overcome and grow through include learning to speak up for myself and advocate for my vision and others when negotiating contracts or seeking new opportunities that aren’t always readily available. I’ve also had to continuously work on my personal development skills, particularly in communication and nurturing the nine fruits of the spirit. Prioritizing and keeping the things and people that matter most first has been crucial, especially when the business pulls me in all directions, leaving me feeling unbalanced and running on empty.

Learning to be present, nurturing mom while taking care of my well-being has been one of my most challenging yet important goals. Mapping out my vision, and sticking to the plan amidst countless new ideas and opportunities, has been a journey in itself. It’s hard for a visionary like me to stick with one thing, but I’ve learned to embrace my uniqueness and not be too hard on myself. Celebrating the small wins along the way and not constantly holding myself to unrealistic standards has been key. I’ve also learned a great deal from those around me and have developed a thirst for knowledge. However, prioritizing and remembering what’s important now—keeping family first and learning to balance and juggle responsibilities—has been essential.

We’ve been impressed with TDR Brands International, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TDR Brands International is a business consulting and production company dedicated to assisting holistic servant leaders and entrepreneurs in amplifying their voice and impact within the community. We specialize in helping entrepreneurs create a holistic lifestyle by streamlining processes, amplifying their authentic voice through interviews and on-camera presence, and providing transformational healing retreats and international speaking opportunities to expand their reach and connect with clients who value their unique contributions.

What sets us apart is our departure from traditional business practices. We firmly believe that each entrepreneur and business owner possesses a unique set of gifts that sets them apart. We strive to illuminate these natural gifts and authenticity during the consulting, production, or interview process, ensuring clear messaging that resonates with their intended audience, allowing them to easily recognize and appreciate the difference they can make. Furthermore, we believe that grace and gratitude are two of the most powerful master keys to helping our clients and holistic entrepreneurs continue to navigate forward throughout their journey.

These values infuse everything we do, guiding our interactions and fostering a supportive environment for growth and success. As the author of *The Power of Peace in a Pause*, I have personally experienced the transformative power of incorporating grace and gratitude into daily life. Our commitment to these principles extends to our Own Your Destiny community on Facebook, where like-minded individuals come together to support each other on their journeys of personal and professional growth. Our services include consulting, international retreats to Africa, and interview and production services aimed at helping clients reach a wider audience. Our consulting services focus on streamlining business practices and aligning them with the individual’s unique identity, shedding light on their natural gifts.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Luck hasn’t played a significant role in my life and business; rather, I believe that God has been incredibly intentional throughout my journey, as He is in everyone’s life. One of the most unexpected blessings along my business journey has been my relationship with Ms. Oprah Winfrey, which emerged following a profound spiritual surrender in 2012. What began as a once-in-a-lifetime encounter blossomed into a meaningful connection.

I’ve had the privilege of covering the red carpet at her LA event, attending a gratitude lunch she hosted for all ambassadors, and participating in the world premiere of her *Belief* series in Atlanta, Georgia. I even had the opportunity to celebrate her birthday at the OWN headquarters in Los Angeles and interact with her on the set of *Selma,* a movie set in the community where I grew up.

Marching alongside her in Selma, Alabama, towards the Edmund Pettus Bridge was a deeply impactful experience. God has used Ms. Winfrey, alongside my family and friends, as an instrumental figure in my journey, providing mentorship, spiritual guidance, and the tools necessary for my continued healing and growth as a young woman.
