Meet Tiffani Neal of Barlow’s Foods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffani Neal.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Barlow’s Foods started as a passion project and quickly turned into a business with a mission to provide better tasting and better for your breakfast food options. Since I can remember, I’ve always had a passion for cooking. Inspired by the fact that amazing dishes and memories can be created with simple and few ingredients, I fell in love with the kitchen at an early age.

A few years ago I thought, “why don’t I create a food product?” At that time, I wasn’t sure what I would create but knew that I wanted to explore the consumer packaged foods industry professionally. I was making breakfast for a friend and they loved my pancakes. The pancakes are AMAZING if I do say so myself, but this triggered something in me that maybe this was the idea that I’d been waiting on.

Immediately I got to work playing with recipes, sending samples to family and friends. The feedback was great! Then I struggled with coming up with a name for the mix, knowing that I wanted this to be more than just any pancake mix and have significance. I brainstormed and brainstormed with no luck. One day I was sitting at my desk and I came across a photo of my grandfather Barlow and the idea came full circle.

My grandfather was a farmer and dedicated his life to agriculture. This is the premise of how I have always cooked and prepared meals. Fresh, whole and made from better for you ingredients. At that moment I realized that I was tapping into something much bigger than myself and Barlow’s Foods was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Each day of entrepreneurship is a challenge. As a newbie, there is the struggle of being taken seriously a lot. Then there are the capital obstacles, we’ve bootstrapped so far with the assistance of a couple of recent grant opportunities. As an entrepreneur you have to get creative, we’ve also experienced supply chain challenges which have increased as a result of the COVID pandemic. Being new to the consumer packaged foods industry, there is the challenge of being taken serious.

The great thing is that I come from a sales background in addition to having an innate spirit of winning and persistence. So I am able to manage the challenges and create opportunities from them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Barlow’s Foods creates a 3-in-1 pancake, biscuit, waffle mix and assorted syrups. The difference between Barlow’s and what you’ll commonly find available is the quality of our ingredients. We use less refined ingredients such as unbleached organic, unenriched red wheat flour and Himalayan salt. Our ingredients are hand sifted and selected. We believe in the nature of seasonal eating and how food was back in the day. You’ll find our peach cobbler syrup during peach season and our berry syrups during their peak seasons.

All of our syrups are made from whole ingredients. We support local farmers when able and give back to our Veteran Community. Right now, there is a huge spotlight on food. People are more knowledgeable and are making more educated decisions when it comes to what they put in their bodies. We want people to know that you don’t have to go drastic when making dietary decisions. You can still eat foods that are familiar to you that taste great and have been made better for you. That’s where Barlow’s Foods comes in, it’s better for you food that you’re used to without the compromise of taste.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
