Meet Tiffani Piearson of Canna Cafe in Forest Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffani Piearson.

Tiffani, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my interest in Cannabis in 2013 while raising my children in California. Of course, California is known for its Cannabis. I became an interested partner with a grower in 2015 as I saw the benefits of it medically. In 2018 when the farm bill past, I saw it as an opportunity to advance to the next level in the cannabis and cannabinol industry. However, plans were delayed a year due to a high-risk pregnancy with my son. So in late 2019, after delivery, I picked up where I left off. I hit the ground running, securing our first location, federal and city licensing, and becoming one of the 1st Black Women to be licensed for a hemp cafe. We’re also now in the 1st stages of opening our 2nd location in Chicago, IL.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Struggles? Plenty of them! It’s not easy being black but it’s even harder when you’re possibly making history for your culture. Much of my success came with a very high price. It’s a little surprising how much hatred and doubt come from within our very own community. However, I’ve never let that deter me in any of my endeavors. I choose to love each time and keep moving. It’s business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Canna Cafe is not your regular Cafe. We serve healthy menu items that are infused with hemp or topped with some of the most delicious hemp ingredients. We specialize in our signature menu items and our THC free products like our Kanna Korn CBD popcorn and our Hemp energy drinks and water. We’re certainly proud that we’ve been able to maintain a five-star rating not only for our tasty food but also our customer service. Canna Cafe has a unique way of allowing people to enjoy the benefits of hemp through healthy food, drinks and snacks. While most companies focus on oils, we wanted to introduce something with a great taste but still beneficial.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I dealt with lots of trauma. Especially as a small child. My father was killed when I was 7 years old, I was molested twice, my big brother was killed and those things alone put me in a very disturbing place growing up. I battled depression on a daily basis, which caused me to be extremely rebellious. However even in my mental dismays I was always the smart, creative, intelligence one. Had my first child at 16 years old and had to come to some conclusion of how to deal with what life had thrown at me. I have 4 sisters and I’m the middle child. You know what they say about the middle one lol. Any who I was always the protector for of all of us. No matter what I was the little big sister. Somehow I’ve always felt it was my job to take care of the family. Heck, I’ve always been the nurturer to everyone. No good deed goes unpunished right! Many things I’m not proud of in my past but many that I am. My upbringing broke me down and built me up. Made me strong very early. I just apply my strength properly to today’s pressure in order to learn, teach and survive.
