Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Gray.
Tim, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story
One of my first gigs was a block party in North (Nawf) Atlanta in a neighborhood called Lawrenceville, GA CrossTown. I then just began to take my craft more seriously building my brand and working clubs x events in Gwinnett County and Atlanta. I soon linked with one of my closest friends my brother DjStudd we began to collaborate on mixtapes and shows and still do to this day. Next had to relocated to this Carolinas where I met DJ DTec OGBossTec and signed with CoalitionDJ’s. It’s just been work and more work. I was staying positive and persistent. As a kid, I used to burn CD’s make a specific playlist for my peers and everyone always seemed to like what I liked to listen to it’s safe to say that was the beginning of me making mixtapes my first official mixtape started IndyExpress Series with DJ Plugg and DJ Studd.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been everything but a smooth road, but I feel that my obstacles fueled my desire and focus on achieving my goals. From doing promotional gigs to late nights in the studio working on my mixes and blends, I genuinely know that helped shape the versatile, well-rounded dj I am today. One of my biggest struggles along my way was establishing myself in a new environment.
Please tell us about your work.
I am an IdieArtist Advocate, Club and MixtapeDJ. I am a member of CoalitionDJ’s and we work closely with artists and labels to break New Music. It takes a special person to stay consistent and work within music independently; that’s why I have a love for the Indie artist; the raw talent before it fully develops. I am most proud of my brand because it has been built from the ground up from my equipment to my mixtapes. I have stayed focused on my grind and process. I feel through my growth, what sets me apart is crowd control and music selection from the beginning till the last call I keep the dance floor moving and being well rounded is a plus which I bring to the table.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself working from more of an executive music position. I feel that the footwork that I have put in and continue to put in with the indie culture helps me in that aspect of working toward my future goals.
