Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Robertson.
Timothy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
An entrepreneur by age 13 flipping phones and shoes from eBay. I went to Howard on a band scholarship to study Marketing. Soon after enrolling, I realized that College was not the path to my success. I was just eager to start exploring my own business ideas and diving into my creativity. My grades started to slip and I ended up losing my scholarship… twice!
With no way of paying for my education on my own, I decided to withdraw from business school. So here I was a college drop out at the age of 20 with no job, living in one of the most expensive cities, DC. I became desperate for quick cash to support myself and decided to build on my hobby of cutting my own hair (and college friends & family) and became a barber full time. I met my first business mentor, Sterling Ashby, in the barbershop, who was an international business lawyer. He was the first person to ever ask me what I wanted to do and was willing to share his resources to do so. I started shadowing him as his assistant. While working with my mentor, he passed along business marketing opportunities until I was able to earn enough to make a full-time living. I eventually landed my first retainer deal from his connections and STATUS Branding was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being broke! and not being able to financially support my creative ideas having too many ideas. Client management, Friend and family support and buy-in, Convincing potential clients to trust my abilities. Knowing the creative industry and creating a sustainable system to deliver consistent results.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Taken on a part-time job to fund the business software and my experiments. Studied Consumer and Behavioral Economics to obtain better oversight. Not be afraid to ask questions to superiors. Trying to prove yourself all of the time is tiring. Strategy trumps brute force. What is for you will stick. Understand that manifestation and law of attraction is a ploy to keep you “feeling good” whilst the world around you is moving in a totally different direction.
