Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Wijaya.
Timothy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before my journey as a business owner began, I worked as a sushi chef for multiple restaurants including Natori Japanese Restaurant, MF Sushi Atlanta, Soto Japanese Restaurant, and Roy’s. Eventually, after years of experience as a professional sushi chef, I finally decided that it was time to pave my own path. Following my love and passion for sushi, I opened my restaurant Sakura in August of 2006. From here, my decade long journey is still not over. To this day, I love watching my customers enjoy the food I put out for them, for it was made with hard work and dedication. Even as I work nights with endless customers and an abundance of disarray, I still manage to persevere as each smile from each customer never fails to keep me going.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my experience as a business owner, I haven’t encountered any significant struggles or obstacles. Up to this point, the road I have paved has been a smooth one.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sakura Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar – what should we know?
Here at my restaurant, we offer the traditional sushi you may find at other restaurants; however, my restaurant mainly focuses and specializes in fusion sushi rolls. Our sushi rolls are delicious in taste and in sight, for each and every roll is delicately and meticulously made with fine details and patience. Moreover, Sakura is known for its hospitality and its lively mood. Although the food here at my restaurant gains lots of recognition, my sushi chefs and myself also help to set my restaurant apart from others. Many customers have described our environment as very friendly and amusing, for my sushi chefs and I cannot contain our humor. As the owner of the restaurant and as an acting sushi chef, I try my best to get to know each and every customer. My greatest pride in my company has to come from the many regulars that come in every week, expecting and receiving some of the best sushi and cuisine available here in East Cobb.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel as if my passion and dedication to sushi and to my customers is the key to my success. Using my food, I build relationships with my customers, for it acts as a common ground for us. My delicious creations help to spark conversations and interactions, which I believe is a great rule for success within the business world. Getting to know your customers and their preferences and their tastes truly have helped me in the long run. Without these relationships, I have with my customers, I believe my restaurant would not stand out above the crowd. My restaurant’s unique cuisine and my personal connections with my clientele has allowed Sakura to be as successful as it is today.
