Meet TLM THE ANGEL

Today we’d like to introduce you to TLM THE ANGEL.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was born, I have been surrounded by music. My father is a professional drummer so I’ve always been surrounded by instruments. When I was young, I would play on my dad’s beat machine called “TR-808” boss. I would make 4 bar loops and play around on it since I could remember. In 2003 (third grade), just 8-9 years old, I wrote my first rap (with the help of my older brother) over a loop I made on the beat machine and performed it in front of my family and a couple of close friends inside of my room. I didn’t start taking music seriously until 2006 (sixth grade) 11-12 years old when I first found Jay Dilla’s tape “Donuts”. This inspired me to get my first piece of hardware which was the MPC 2000. Ever since then, I’ve been constantly working on music and developing my sound.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me, music was always a way to make my road smoother. I use music as a way to express my emotions and say things that wouldn’t really make sense in a regular conversational form. Of course, I have struggles just like anyone else, but I don’t think music has contributed to my problems. Music and art has always made life better for me. Music helps me solve my problems.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
I write music. Lyrically, and sonically. I specialize in writing lyrics and beats that make you feel heavy emotion. I’m known for being a trailblazer of my own path. I am most proud of being allowed to inspire others through my sound and helping others to see that you can be yourself and also be just as cool as you want. What sets me apart from others is that I’m 100% purely me at all times. Some people don’t find it easy to stick out like a sore thumb; I embrace it. I’m naturally mysterious.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I knew I was different because of the things I gravitated to. Like clothes, shoes, music, and even goals and aspirations. I was a very determined kid to follow my dreams. With my father being a professional drummer and my older brother from inner-city Baltimore, I was exposed to ALL types of music. Most kids were listening to the radio. I was listening to underground jazz and rap. I had a mature taste in music. I knew I was different because my friends could never relate or have even heard of the things I was listening too. I was an outcast that everyone respected because I could relate to everyone due to my personal experiences.
