Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Brown.
Todd, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a saw dust baby. I grew up Savannah, GA where my dad owned a custom cabinet shop. At the age of 8, I started working for his company every summer. I started out sweeping floors, and as I became older would transition into a different department of the business. I learned every detail, from sanding, finishing, design, and sales. What I remember most is that custom cabinetry was endless in its possibilities. We provided cabinetry for everything including, apartments, major hotel chains, doctor offices, military bases, million dollar homes to starter homes and townhomes. When it came time to go to college I attended Mercer University with the plan to go into the medical field. Once in school I had the epiphany to do what you are most passionate about. My passion was cabinetry. I love the detail and challenges of using semi-custom and stock products and still creating the custom quality and look that I grew accustom to working in a custom shop. I made the move from Savannah to Atlanta in the late 90’s to gain exposure to an eclectic market. To become a better designer I longed for the diversity that Atlanta had to offer. Coming to Atlanta at the start of the housing boom was key. I worked as an outside sales rep and designer for few companies before I realized that leadership was the key. Passing the knowledge on that my father taught me to others. CabinetExpress now has a team that share the same values of excellent customer service and custom creations with budget friendly design and product
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
All businesses have challenges. Anybody that has more than 10 years’ experience in the industry can talk about the great recession. It was a time when many good people and companies were feeling the effect. The housing market crash happened so quickly. Many companies knew the bubble would burst but the rate of growth almost forced you to invest more into the business. The key was to try to keep overhead cost down while still meeting your clients’ needs. Another constant challenge is staying ahead of the current trends. We are always doing research to determine not what everyone else has but what everyone else wants. Cabinet Express prides itself on meeting all of our clients’ expectations.
Cabinet Express – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cabinet Express offers measures, free design services, and installation of cabinetry, countertops, hardware, and closet systems. We also offer flooring and tile selections. We specialize in getting products quickly. We offer lines that will allow customers to get their products in as little as 48 hours. Many companies cannot offer the selection that we have and have it available in 48 hours.
I am most proud of our customer service referrals and ratings. The most important aspect of our business is the customer and we will not stop until the customer is completely satisfied.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is measured by growth. I would love to see Cabinet Express locations in multiple cities and states. Operating at the same high standards that originated with the Norcross location.
