Meet Tom Love of Woodfire Records in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Love.

Tom, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a music nerd since day 1. My family was big into sports like golf and football, and none of that ever stuck with me. At age 9 or 10, my mom got me a drum set and a skateboard, and I never looked back. I played in hardcore bands through my teenage years and did small tours up and down the east coast with various bands playing drums.

One day I got mad at my drummer of the last band I was in, said fuck it, sold all my drums, and started to figure out how to make music on my own, hence me starting to produce and engineer. I was blessed to share a studio with one of my former best friends D. Boogie (RIP) and Kane Beatz, and I was quickly surrounded by industry-leading producers and artists in no time.

After five years of working with Kane and Boogie and working and engineering for artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Nicki Miniaj, Enrique Iglesias, and many more, I got tired of just being an engineer and decided to try and focus more on producing and developing artists. I worked for a short time at a studio in Atlanta called Madison Records, which taught me more about who I was as a producer and engineer than school or any class ever taught me.

I met Berlin (Lord Bisque) during this time, and we just became really good friends smoking chilling all the time. One day we were vibing out to a beat I made with one of my production partners Triza, and he had some bars he’s said would be good for someone. I said, “Yo, your voice sounds tight. Let’s try it out with you,” and the Kicking in was made, and the rest is history. We went on to meet and work with Chance and Started woodfire records that year and have been independent ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
The music game has been completely unforgiving for me in my experience. I have lost friends, family, money. I have fought depression and wondered for years whether this is right. I wake up The past few years with a new perspective, one that allows me to plan and execute my art and my production and still be able to HAVE FUN. It’s taken a long time, but I’m super happy with where I’m at and the people I am currently working on music with.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
Woodfire Records is an indie record label from East Atlanta. We are not a “Hip Hop” label or any branded genre, but we fuck with GOOD MUSIC. As I said, our dynamic between all of us as artists, in my opinion, has created a diverse platform for us to be able to blast off from.

Woodfire records have been working hard to be able to create consistent mind bending content while still pushing the boundaries of what is “Correct” in Hip Hop and music in general. We pride ourselves on our music and quality products that are just not offered by any other indie label in Atlanta currently.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
East Atlanta is all of our homes. If not now, at least at some point. It has always been a staple for where we work, play, and chill. Atlanta has been associated with a certain type of image for a long time tho when it comes to hip hop, and I’m truly hoping we can bring new gunner energy to it. I want people to feel like they are going to have great fun tome and see some awesome new music in a no pressure setting. East Atlanta has always been a place where we are comfortable in making that happen.
