Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Everett.
Hi Tommy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We started in 1964 in my grandparent’s house after my uncle, Jerry Everett (and two other officers), were murdered working for Gwinnett County police. Friends of the family would gather on Friday and Saturday nights to comfort the family and would play bluegrass and gospel. As the the years went on, more people would gather and in 1970 my father, Leroy along with family and friends, built the music barn. With the love and support of our patrons, we have kept the music going and look forward to the future of Everett’s Music Barn.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it has been smooth. With the donations of our loyal patrons, we have kept the barn going for several generations.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a bluegrass and gospel venue. We are open every Saturday night unless Christmas falls on Saturday. We offer food, snacks, drinks, and a good family atmosphere. My grandma, “Ma Everett”, had a few rules that we keep today. No alcohol is allowed on the premises, and we have been that way for 60 years. We also run off of donations in a coffee can that we keep in the back.
What makes you happy?
My family. They are my best friends.
