Meet DJ Tyrite

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Tyrite.

Thanks for sharing your story with us DJ Tyrite. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Music has always been my passion, it all started when I joined band in the 3rd grade and played the clarinet. 9th grade I joined the Mighty Marching Lion Drumline at Westlake High School. My dad has the biggest influence on my music career; when I was younger, he used to always bump hit exclusive in the car while riding around the city. The type of music he played always made me feel as if I was either at a grown folks cookout or in the club. In middle school, my friends used to throw house parties frequently and I was always in attendance. I enjoyed the music that the DJs were mixing and always thought I could also become a master at mixing as well.

My first gig as a DJ was my brothers’ 8th birthday party. A set of desktop speakers and an HP laptop is all the equipment I had and needed. My dad bought my first DJing controller which was Numark Mixtrack DJ controller. Once I got a good bit of practice in, I began to promote myself and got a business card made to professionalize my craft. Over the years of DJing parties and elegant events, I invested more in myself. I purchased the whole DJ set: latest Macbook Pro, wireless mic, lighting system, upgraded DJ controller. Once I got new equipment, my quality, skills and value increased.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course every entrepreneur has their struggles. Once I started DJing on the 8th, my clientele began to pick up rapidly. I was receiving bookings through word of mouth and by actually networking while Djing at gigs. Summer of 2017 was the best of all times. I was being booked seven days a week, I was just beginning to make a name for myself around the city. Transiting to college is when things started to get slow.

Originally, I was supposed to be attending Tuskegee University, but things happen and I ended up attending Savannah State University. Before I knew I wasn’t gone be able to attend skegee, I had parties lined up with me as the DJ for Freshmen Week. Once I arrived at Savannah State, my clientele decreased. Since I wasn’t in the city that often being able to DJ, my traveling availability changed. Junior year in college my clientele started to accelerate. Once I started showing the world my passion and skills the more people engaged into my craft. I’ve been getting booked regularly and going crazy every event I DJ.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a female Disc Jockey. My company is my DJ name, DJ Tyrite (Professional DJ services). I provide music, professional sound and lighting for all events. I’m known for DJaying at parties, school events, and at Savannah State University Basketball Games. I specialize in all types of musical genres. I currently work at E93 radio station (based in Savannah). I provide music for any event that needs music such as cruises, athletics games, proms, corporate events, weddings, sweet 16, clubs and lounges, etc.

My biggest gig I ever did was DJing on a Christmas Cruise to 4 different countries. I had the chance to network with many people from across the world. What sets me different from other DJs is how I mix and what I mix. Beatmatching is the soul of smooth transiting, which is the most important part of any DJ set. My skills hold value, which makes me suitable for any type of crowd.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would’ve changed the way I went about networking with others. Most of the time, it’s not about what you know and what your skills are but yet the relationship you have with your next potential client. Building bonds with others sometimes makes you more familiar and suitable.
