Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Fitch.
Alicia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved celebrating! I spent most of high school and college planning school events. If there was an event on campus, I was there. From supervising the university’s recreation center to interning as Georgia Southern University’s special event intern, I took every opportunity to create bright moments for everyone involved. After graduation, I knew it was time to take my passion into overdrive.
I started Brighter Affairs in 2012 and took on the business full-time in 2013. It has truly been one of my proudest accomplishments. In the past 5 years, I have celebrated over 300 events with my clients. Brighter Affairs has been featured in Huff Post, Rolling Out Magazine, Munaluchi Bride, and Modern Luxury, In 2018, Brighter Affairs was named Best of Weddings by The Knot.
Since opening Brighter Affairs, our business has expanded into other great endervors, including our 24/7 Online Party Supply store, Premimum Party Shop, and our print and design shop, Brighter Ink Studio.
I’m also excited to annouce the launch of my new YouTube channel, LiLi Loves It. This show will focus on my tips on balancing work, love, family, and life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is one of the greatest joys, but it comes with its fair share of ups and downs.
My advice to young women starting their entrepreneurial journey is to charge your worth. Often, I see entrepreneurs charging way less than their what their talent is truly worth. Be bold! Demand proper pay. Pick a number that you are not willing to charge less than and stick with it. If they can’t appreciate your value then they are not the client for you.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brighter Affairs – what should we know?
I am the owner and lead event planner of Brighter Affairs. I specialize in social events and weddings.
My team and I are inspired to create the most unforgettable experiences while celebrating our clients’ brightest moments.
We take pride in the customer service we provide and we have received 5/5 on every review we’ve received since opening. We dedicate time to getting to know our clients outside of the details of their event. It is so important to understand the unique personality traits and preferences of our clients. These are the elements we use to make each event truly unique.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I believe it is important to continue to grow and learn outside of traditional education. I regularly attend business conferences and workshops to stay abreast of trends in my industry and to learn from fellow entrepreneurs.
My favorite resource is YouTube. I’ve learned everything from balloon arches to floral bouquets from YouTube. I believe that you can learn anything with the right search keyword.
My favorite app is Trello. The project management app keeps me super organized. I can easily share updates and new projects with my team and clients.
My favorite podcast is Confessions of a WERKaholic hosted by Koereyelle DuBose. Koereyelle has been a mentor to me for years; her “get to WERK” attitude inspires me daily.
