Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Dee.
Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I think like most millennials, I went against the status quo. I’ve always had that drive to do something different. My mom told me to go to school and get a great “job.” I followed along, got my Masters and even gained my license as a professional counselor but after joining the workforce, I knew it wasn’t for me. It just didn’t feel right and after I learned about all the things that go into getting a “good job”, I knew I wanted out. I started my own practice and would get questions about how I got started which began my consulting business. Over time, I wanted to grow and learned more and began looking for ways to make my own mark but there were little to no information out there. I think that was another aspect that pushed me to do what I do. My life mission has always been to help others and that’s what I strive to do make someone’s life better. I started sharing my knowledge through my blog, my podcast, doing interviews, speaking at events, and even wrote a book. I have met some of the best people that have helped me to get where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
Ha! Is there such thing as a smooth road in business?! I look to business just as I do life. There are many ups and downs and something that I noticed has been consistent is not getting the results you want. Having a business takes a lot of hard work and dedication. It is easy to frustrate and want to give up but you have to remind yourself why you started. Advice that I would give a young woman just starting the journey is consistency is key. No matter how hard it seems or how much it “seems” like it’s not working, trust me, there is someone out there watching and loving everything you do. Keep going! Also, when those times of defeat seem to come, take a different perspective and know that life is just pushing you in the right direction when you start to go off course.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m most known for business + behavior. My background is in human behavior and I can never get enough information on why people do what they do. I combine that with my creativity and love of online marketing to help people get the results they want. Something that I’m most proud of as a brand is the commitment to help other women flourish and succeed with their goals whether is getting a new job or starting a business. It is all about assisting other women to that next level. One thing that sets me apart is the hands-on attention I give. So many will tell you what to do but don’t tell you how to do it. I take pride in talking the journey with these women and most of these “workships” turn into real life friendships. That’s such a great bonus!
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I looooove Ted Talks. They are packed with loads of motivation and information that keep me up-to-date and inspired. Some good books that I love are Outliers, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office, Play Bigger, and The Four Agreements. Some of the things that help me stay organized are the Productive App, Calendly for scheduling, and Asana for project management.
