Meet Trailblazer Ashley Hood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hood.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always struggled with being certain of what I want to do in my life. Constantly on the quest for finding my purpose. After college, when it was time to get serious about adulting, I realized that no matter where I ended up, I want to make sure it is something I’m passionate about. I pondered on a number of projects from graphic designing to content creation to philanthropic work. I want people to enjoy what I have to offer from each of those sectors. With faith and focus, I began producing things that I believe in. The key is to just get started. I work hard and pray that everything unfolds in my favor.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is definitely not easy. My anxiety and self-doubt are the leading causes of many of the struggles I face. I want to pinpoint those characteristics because a lot of people deal with anxiety and self-doubt, but don’t like to admit it. I take efforts every day to work against any negative thoughts that may come up. I choose to persevere because I know what I want out of life and I’ve drilled it in my head that I have to do whatever it takes to achieve it. My advice to other women would be to just push through. Your efforts aren’t going unnoticed.

Please tell us about The Ashley H – what should we know?
TheAshleyH is my overall brand. My blog is under the name as well. My areas of focus as it pertains to the blog are DIY Beauty and Lifestyle. My mission is to share my ideas on various topics. I also aim to teach my consumers that it’s possible to achieve a popular look without breaking that the bank. “Completely Uncomfortable” is a podcast that I co-host. We discuss all of the off-the-wall topics that society loves to hate. We talk about sexuality, infidelity, code-switching, and much more. I’m most proud of the impact that I’ve seen from what I produce. It’s great to see that people are on the lookout for what’s next from me.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel like one of the biggest barriers to female leadership is consistency. Women are the pillars of the earth. There are so many times when a woman’s dreams die because their focus changes to supporting others. It happens when a woman has a child. It happens when a woman gets married. It’s easy for us to lose ourselves in situations. That’s where consistency has to come in. When we are persistent about living the life we’ve always wanted, we will go to no end to accomplish that. But once we worry about ourselves less and our plans don’t include our own selves, then we fail to reach our fullest potential.
