Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Inman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m the owner and photographer of Barefeet Imagery. I used to think that I stumbled upon photography in 2001 when I went off to college in pursuit of becoming an art teacher. I instantly fell in love with the way I could capture emotion through a lens and the fact that being inside a darkroom was the closest I’ve ever felt to home. But in the beginning of 2015 when my mother passed away, I was left going through the boxes of pictures that she left behind and to my surprise I found images of myself at all ages of my life with a camera in my hand. So now, I like to think that I’ve been doing this my whole life.
Everyone always goes back to the photographs. When you’re feeling happy or sad or if you’re holding on to that one last memory, it’s always the photographs you reach for first. I take my business one day at a time. I’m not striving to be the best at what I do, I’m striving to come into peoples lives for an hour or two and capture real life emotion that will tell a story for a lifetime.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running a business is never easy. But I think as women, we have this strength about us that no one can destroy. We have to learn that excepting failure is the ultimate key to success. We are going to get knocked down, pushed aside and told no on a daily basis. But it doesn’t mean we can’t keep moving forward. That dream that you have in your heart was put there on purpose and it’s your duty to not let it fade.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barefeet Imagery – what should we know?
I specialize in natural light portraits, weddings, and product. My main goal with every photo I take is to capture not only an image but a story behind it. I want my clients to be their true selves in front of my camera. I want to be able to freeze their real, raw emotions.
I work strictly with natural light which can be tricky at times, but it is who I am as an artist. Some days, I will sit at a location for hours just watching and taking note of the light and waiting for it to move as the day goes by.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
As women in a working world, we have the ability to connect with clients on an emotional level. We want to hear their thoughts and ideas and take those things into consideration before we start working with them. I think caring and emotion has gotten me to where I am in my business. A client wants to be heard and wants to know that you are ready to make a connection with them.

Brandi is amazing. I am so lucky to have had her help me with my product photos for my business. I absolutely love that she works only with natural light. She inspired me to ditch the light box for my photographs! Congrats Brandi!
