Meet Trailblazer Fatima Camara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Camara.

Fatima, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Came to the united states when I was five years old. My mother taught herself how to braid hair and opened a small African hair braiding salon in the early 2000s, she kept the salon for about 15 years in 2016 she retired and I took over the salon. I had just quit my corporate job and wanted to fully discover my passions. I had no idea my passion was something I was doing on the regular basis for friends. My creative side fell under the correct term of branding and marketing strategist. In 2016, I took over the salon with no cosmo license or any desire for beauty but a huge desire in making women feel good about themselves. I remodeled the salon and made it full service. In the midst of branding ourselves, we tried to show women that the salon wasn’t just for beauty, but it was also a safe space. In August 2017, a new salon moved into the same plaza forcing me to really chase after my dreams or December 2017, I got the keys to the space next door for the first six months of 2018, we went through construction in July of 2018, I opened hous11, the creative hub which includes a workspace for creatives and a photography studio.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hell, no.

LOL!

Hell, no.
It’s actually pretty difficult and not just financially or for all the regular reasons entrepreneurship is hard, but definitely because following your dreams is a long journey of self-realization and one of the hardest things to do in this world full of distractions is pay attention to yourself.

My advice for women?

Flow. Surrender. And let go. The best attribute you can have in business is to surrender to what is first. Flow with the ups and the downs because none of it last forever and when you let go of the control, you are in the best space to receive. Work as hard as you can. Remain confident and forget to fear, it’s a heap of shit that more than likely will never happen.

We’d love to hear more about Hous11.
