Meet Trailblazer Hanan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanan.

Hanan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always suffered from adult acne and mine had to have been by far the worst. You know the BIG, cyst-like bumps that were painful at the touch. I was “blessed” with those consistently all over; which eventually led to scars and dark spots. And when I say scars, I’m not referring to the surface scars; we are talking those deep ones that I was for sure would never EVER go away. I started getting PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) facials every six weeks, about four years ago and they changed my skin/my life. Well, maybe I am being dramatic when I say my life but for those that suffer from this type of acne, know exactly how I feel.

I’ve always loved getting spa treatments but when I started seeing significant changes I knew I wanted to invest or even own one; one day. Fast forward a few years later and here I am owning my very own Medical Spa located in Dunwoody, GA. We have been opened for three years and yes, ABSOLUTELY we offer PRP Facials along with many other services.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is anything worth having ever smooth? Lol!

We had many failures along the way from hiring friends, paying for training before the staff was really ready, not properly budgeting, going into business with others that didn’t have the same goals and the list literally goes on and on.

But what’s a business without failures?

My advice to women/young women who are starting off on this journey:

  1. Don’t be scared to take a risk/chance on yourself – your future self will thank you.
    2. When taking this risk understand that you may or may not succeed and REALLY be ok with that; because the knowledge you gain from opening up your own business is priceless and no amount of education will prepare you for it. Sink or Swim and have that shark mentality.
    3. Do not open up a business unless you are truly passionate about it because there will be days that you get discouraged but your passion will keep you motivated. If you simply go into business because it sounds good or you are trying to impress someone, then I would stay far away from the entrepreneurial life. This lifestyle is not for those running a sprint it’s for those running a marathon. You will work long hours and have to say no to a girls night out every now and then but the long term reward is beautiful.
    4. Some of your friends won’t understand and that’s ok – it’s not their journey, it’s yours.
    5. Lastly, don’t give up on your dreams!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I think for me, it’s all about building relationships and getting to know your clients and letting your clients get to know you – the REAL you. I sit with them talk to them about my story and what worked for me and get to know why they are there for, get to know their family and who they really are.

I want to say that the thing that sets me apart from the next person is my shark mentality. I set my mind on something and then I do everything I can to make it happen. I am also a realist; that’s the Virgo side of me. I have to be realistic that I may not reach my goal but believe me I am going to do everything I can to achieve it. I am super competitive, sometimes feisty (my friends would disagree with the sometimes) and consider my self a true BOSS BABE.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think things are shifting but I truly believe that the biggest barrier in female leadership is confidence. I talk to so many women and they appear to be confident but when you get past the surface they have so many insecurities. These insecurities derive from their past relationships, past experiences, and past hurt. However, what most women fail to do is get past their insecurities and not just talk the talk but actually back it up.
