Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Grimes.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m 19 years old from Columbus, Ga. A sophomore at Georgia State University. Business accounting major aspiring to be an Entertainment Lawyer and being a multi-business owner. As a teenager, I have always been a girl that has wore different weaves and eyelash styles and popular on social media. Many females would ask me where do I buy my weaves or get my lashes from. In June 2019, I decided I wanted to make a difference and start a business making other women feel beautiful by enhancing their beauty with weaves and 25 MM Minks. I first sat down with a notebook and came up with a business plan. I got a logo made. Found vendors. Ordered the products and tested them out. Came up with prices for my products and got price lists made. I even made my own website on BigCartel.Com to sell my products on. I also had a photo shoot with six girls and paid for all the expenses so that potential customers can see the products that I am selling.
From the very first week of my business, I started to become very successful. It’s not about the money with me selling these products something I actually love and enjoy doing. Since I’ve had my business, I’ve given back to the community by feeding the homeless and having a Breast Cancer Awareness Sale which I would donate a percentage of the profit to either a breast cancer patient or a hospital. I’ve added Designer Headwear, Fur Headbands, Fur Boots, and Fur Slides to my Collection. I pray that my business continues to have success. I was always told by many that I should look into being an entrepreneur, but I never took the chance and followed my dreams until I was a sophomore in college and I am happy that I did.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is not easy as many would think. You have to be dedicated and willing to take losses. It’s all about networking and promoting your brand. You are your biggest supporter. I would say if you’re interested in starting your own business, make sure it is something you enjoy because then you will never get bored or tired with it. Be prepared to have to take some of your profit and reup on your products with it. I would also say put your money into a savings account. Because if you’re putting all your time and money into your business just to spend all of your profit up, it’s a lose-lose situation.

My two most popular sellers are the 25 MM Mink Lashes and Designer Headwear. I am known for being a hard worker and humble. I am most proud of my brand for being able to take some of the profit that I make and give back to the community while also helping others feel beautiful by enhancing their beauty. What sets me apart from others is that I am very dedicated to my brand and professional. I live and breathe my brand. When people see my products, they KNOW it’s mine.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say that I think everyone should have a mentor that can guide them through the steps of being successful. They have been through what you’re about to go through. Being a good listener and taking constructive criticism is key. I would definitely say please network you are your biggest support. Get business cards made, post on your social media every day, and do pop up shops. What has worked well for me is always mentioning my brand once I meet somebody new. Passing out my business cards. Posting on both my business & personal social media accounts every day. Also, I’ve done two pop up shops thus far and I have done very well.
