So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been into art as long as I can remember literally! My mom was an artist and just about every wall has a piece she’s created or made. I wanted to be just like her and we quickly realized my passion for painting. Thankfully, when I got to middle school, I had this AMAZING art teacher, Mrs. McGee who taught me just about every medium. From there, I started winning competitions and became ranked for a sculpture that I did. After that, my life has been about creating amazing art!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha, not in the slightest. Art is one of those things that isn’t necessarily concrete or guaranteed. That’s actually what I love about it most. It’s very fluid. You’ll have a fair share of ups and downs. As an artist, you’re not going to always get the credit you deserve or recognition. God is responsible for getting me through it all! When I first started my business, I did a lot of free work just to get my name out there. I’ve had people even tell me recently my prices were too high. What they don’t realize is this is how I make a living. You pay for the quality you want. Sweetheart, keep pushing for what you love! When you do what you love, the money will follow! Don’t worry about when your time will come, prepare yourself so you don’t have to get ready when it does!
Please tell us about Klassic Kreations – what should we know?
My business is an art customization business to make dreams a reality. I specialize in painting and drawing, My specialty is painting one of a kind designs on different fabrics (i.e jackets, pants, shoes, etc.). Any piece I create for a client, they can know it’ll never be duplicated or seen anywhere else! I am to make pieces that tell a story, a feeling, and our current culture. My passion for art shows through every piece I create! Atlanta has been my biggest muse for what I create, there’s inspiration everywhere! When customers or people who haven’t even purchased from me give great reactions, that’s my “yo, you’re actually good at this moment”. I did a custom for my friend and he literally ran around screaming, it hit me then honestly. No one has my style or creates what I create. You’re going to love what I make and feel like a boss while in it!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
You can NOT be shy in this business! There are people who make their dreams a reality and those who are wishing it could be a reality. You essentially are a walking sales pitch. The world will give you opportunities and you must be ready when they come. In Atlanta especially, you can meet literally your next investor or customer. Reach out to people who inspire you and introduce yourself, you never know they could be your next mentor. Study your craft, study the innovators, the pioneers! Constantly work at your craft, learn new methods! There is ALWAYS room for you to improve on yourself and your craft. You can’t be afraid to take that leap of faith. I had to be willing to come out of what was familiar and I’ve never looked back.
