Meet Trailblazer KC Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to KC Love.

KC, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally from the Midwest Kansas City to be exact, most of my life, my friends and family would tell me girl you are too funny you ever think about being a comedian? Making people laugh and being animated come naturally for me. I moved to Atlanta during the buzz of the Olympics of 1996 with the intentions of pursuing a career as a comedian and touring the country!

But life had something else in mind, I needed up married had another child and was later diagnosed with Colon Cancer and ended up having a much-needed surgery to save my life and then an equally needed divorce soon followed, looking back, I am not sure which one I needed most the surgery or the divorce. 😊
Everything I have experienced, the good, the bad and the ugly gave me the strength and courage to try comedy again and lead me to create the visual for my self – funded music video Project Loyal – these jobs ain’t loyal based off the real-life job outsourcing overseas that left me jobless. So, here I am! The dream of being a comedian never left my heart, it’s evolved, thanks to social media, so I decided to give it another try. Needless to say, KcLove is here!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would tell women to listen to your body, it really does tell you when something is wrong. I initially ignored the signs that something was wrong before being told I was diagnosed with colon cancer. And don’t be a friend to be different, you don’t have to be like everyone else and age really just numbers, in some cases, never let your age determine what you can’t or can do… well, unless it’s illegal, of course!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Comedian – what should we know?
You can find me performing mostly at Atlanta Comedy theater open mic nights in Norcross to perfect my craft I am most proud of as a brand… my self-funded music video Project Loyal `These Jobs ain’t loyal` paid for it out of my 401k to speak up and for all American workers that have been impacted by millions of jobs being sent overseas with a touch of comedy thrown in! I think a very important part of my brand is that I am a 53-year-year-old female comedian that just happens to love rap music all music really, but rap is my favorite and I can rap a little bit too! Planning on showing everyone age ain’t nothing but a number and dreams don’t have to have an expiration date! Is what sets me apart.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be open and be approachable and willing to network, if you don’t have a page on Instagram, get one! Use social media to your advantage, it’s the best way to promote yourself!
