Meet Trailblazer Keisha Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Evans.

Keisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Throughout my entire childhood, I have always been a compelling storyteller and had an undeniable love for film. As a teenager, I often wrote short stories as a hobby, never taking it too serious because I couldn’t fathom the rewards from an illustrious film career as I had been raised in a family of healthcare professionals. However, this did not deter me from keeping an interest in creating and embellishing thoughts of being a writer. My major turning point was the moment I worked on my first feature film set. I knew that even after having worked an 18-hour workday, I absolutely enjoyed what I was doing. My identity had been solidified and through self-education, I learned the basics of screenwriting and began taking courses at the Alliance Theater. Pushing myself to learn more and to perfect my craft, I began studying cinematography, video editing, and lighting techniques. All key elements that are crucial in creating a cinematic film. I find fulfillment in creating and writing, however I am consistently pushing myself to increase my knowledge and sharpen my craft to become a well-rounded filmmaker. With two projects completed and two in development, I plan to have a productive and accomplished year in 2020. I am ready to kick off a promising career and bring my creativity into reality.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Film, being dominated by majority male directors and creators, is full of obstacles and challenges and so much more so when considering the fact that I am a young black female. A major challenge I had when first starting was figuring out the legalities of creating and writing, along with contracts and partnerships. I learned that it is vital to be vigilant in the production process and to have a clear understanding of contractual agreements prior to signing.

We’d love to hear more about Armani Film.
I am a creator and writer in the art of film. I am known for short films and writing for various production companies whether it be writing, story editing, or development. I am active from the beginning stages of the project; e.g., writing/development to the ending stages involving editing and distribution. Although I find fulfillment in creating and writing, I have experience in directing, production coordinating, and producing.

I am most proud of my consistent growth; evolving as a person, a writer, and a brand. The things that set me apart from others is my diligence and unwavering search for knowledge and experience. Learning from my mistakes, accomplishments, counterparts, friends, and life experiences– I am able to gain intellectual growth and guidance along my journey.
