Meet Trailblazer Keraw Bucknor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keraw Bucknor.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved vintage shopping. It’s something about being in a different time period that intrigues me. I saw a couple of women buying and reselling thrift and vintage clothing online. So I naturally thought what if I remixed it with my own swag.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t. As creatives we just want to make art. Even though I am a fashion designer, I still see my talent as art. Because that’s what fashion is wearable art. So when it come to the business part I can find it a little complicated. Like, I rather just pay someone to do the business part. So when I talk to young people I tell them to learned every aspect of your craft/ business or it can disastrous. And that nothing comes easy ever!

We’d love to hear more about Blacksheep.
Well, Blacksheep is a clothing line that refashions vintage and thrift clothing. I also teach beginners sewing classes. I am also a seamstress. But my clothing line is what really brings me joy. What sets me apart from other designers is that I don’t sketch every garment is a design that come to life as I work on it.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think the best position that we are in right now is that we are able to respect each other’s hustle. Like, I have really met wonderful women networking doing pop up shows with Craft Trap that are simply amazing. I’m so blessed to have found a community of women who are out here trying to be great. As long as we stay on this frequency we on sharing what we learn we will all be successful in our own way.
