Meet Trailblazer Keyshia Battee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyshia Battee.

Keyshia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like most, I started my journey off traditionally. I graduated from high school and started college in the fall at Savannah State University. Upon graduation, I entered the workforce, because that’s what we are taught to do, and preceded to build my career. I had checked all the boxes that should lead to a road of success… right?

One day, as I was driving my corporate company car down one of Georgia’s back roads headed into work, I was pondering the idea of not working for anyone else ever again. I was 25, burnt out from my high paying corporate job, and needed a change. I detested my work environment every day felt longer than the next. Through that cloud of fog in my head, something stood out to me. It was the phrase “SuiteFace”. At that point in time, it wasn’t an idea it was just a name. I filed it away in my mental roladex and went on with my day. All I could think was I had worked so hard to earn my position, everyone has bad days. Girl go to work!

I have always sort of been defiant in my own way. So, by the end of the year, I had quit my corporate job, took on an apprenticeship to earn my master cosmetologist license and dove headfirst in an industry that I was familiar with and always knew I would be in. That was the easy… (not so easy part). While I was establishing myself as a stylist, me and a friend started an event planning company called “Material Girls”, cute huh? We had some success but soon dissolved because of lack of knowledge from that industry. Needless to say, it was a definite set back.

I went on building my craft and brand, and I wanted to do more. I was already doing weddings, fashion shows, and, special occasions. I had learned project management and the logistics for planning small events through my previous company. That’s when the idea of “SuiteFace” was born! It was a no brainer! God had already given me the vision for it 10 years prior. I meet with my current business partner Jillian Quartimon, I discussed the idea and BOOM!

SuiteFace was started in December 2016.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a ride! We struggled initially trying to figure out how to explain what it is that we offer. Anytime you try to introduce a new concept, it takes time to develop the right way to market it. SuiteFace’s motto is that we are your “Pre-event to your main event.” We want to provide you, and your guest with the ultimate experience through, make-up, hair, massage, food, and drinks on location. Sounds great right? We had to learn to translate that through pictures and short videos. We are still learning, and are highly motivated to continue our growing business concept and brand.

I would tell a younger version of myself and any woman to stay motivated and trust what God has given you. We all have a purpose, but sometimes that purpose needs nurturing before it can be useful to you and others. I would also tell them to perfect their craft, in whatever it may be and always get the necessary credentials, and always have integrity.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SuiteFace – what should we know?
SuiteFace was designed to provide the ultimate suite (or on-location experience). We cater to an array of events from Birthday celebrations to bridal needs in the privacy of your personal suite or an alternative disclosed location. We are most proud of operating with low overhead and high service. We try to provide the very best and latest hair designs, makeup techniques, and fun table displays for our guest.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
I am most inspired every day by working with women and female entrepreneurs. We are relentless in our plight. Often times these women are not recognized for their sacrifices and resiliency. They inspire me because these type of women are creating spaces, footstools, and chairs to be brought to the table and even building their own tables in industries that are often male-driven. Barrier breaking women keep me motivated, because I know they had to put their emotions in check, look at the bigger picture, and often sacrifice their own wants for a possibility for another person to move forward.
