Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadijah Jennings (Kia Shawnise).
Thanks for sharing your story with us Khadijah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I was always told I have a gift on my life. I always knew I was destined for great success. Not knowing what I would do in life or how I would reach my success, but I knew I wouldn’t stop until I reached my full potential. After graduating high school in Charleston, SC, I still didn’t fully know what I wanted to do but I did know I wanted to work for myself and own my own business and make a difference in peoples’ life. As a couple of years went by, I experienced struggles and obstacles I never thought I would go through, but I always had God on my side. With the help of my grandfather Jessie Jennings Sr., I became closer to God. I began to get discouraged and think I would never gain the success I thought I would or even have a successful business but as my grandfather always quotes to me “ In all of thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.” So, instead of giving up and allowing the devil to discourage me, I developed a high amount of faith and put all my trust in God. My mother Demetria has taught me to always speak my mind and live in my truth no matter what. She has also taught me the true meaning of hard work, we went through many struggles but I never saw her break or ever give up. She always made sure I had things I needed and wanted me to to succeed. I prayed for guidance and stability and the knowledge needed to reach my full potential and do what he has preordained me to do.
One day, God spoke to me giving the words “Knowledge, Stimulates, Soul, Development“, I didn’t know what they were for but I wrote them down along with their meanings. As two weeks went by, I started to think about my business and what I wanted to do, the difference I wanted to make for young girls & woman. As I began to write then, I started to write about my business plan and purpose, I realized I wanted to help woman and girls build self- love, self- confidence and find their purpose in life and also help them purify their soul. It was then when I went back to my notes on two weeks prior and realized the words God gave to me were for the name of my brand. That day “KSSD Beauty “ was born. I am a witness that the devil will do everything in his power to break you down, make you lose your faith and keep you from achieving what God has planned for you. As long as you pray and seek the knowledge needed to stimulate and purify your soul and put your trust in God, He will always lead to on the path to reach your full potential.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to get to where I am has not been easy, getting through bullying, depression, life struggles have been tough, but I keep God on my side and trust that he is leading me to my ultimate success, this is only the beginning!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KSSD BEAUTY – what should we know?
KSSD Beauty is a Brand for our young princesses and queens of the world. We promote self-love, self-confidence, and help them to find their sole purpose in life. We sell Beauty products such as lip gloss, lip scrubs, body oil, lashes, hair, etc. We also offer portrait photography. Soon, we will offer trade and entrepreneurship classes to help them start their own businesses. What sets us apart from other brands is that we are not only a “One Stop Shop” for beauty products, but we want to help create young bosses not just in the beauty field but in others as well. I am what people call a “Plug” I have many talents in Photography, Graphic Design, Custom Design, Cosmetology, Music, etc. and I want to share these talents as well.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
My most important advice to give is to pray, never lose faith, and put your trust in God that He will direct you on the right path. Also, the devil comes in many forms, so always pay attention and never let him stop you.
