Meet Tony Byrd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Byrd.

Tony Byrd is the Founder of News Boy Network and Paperboy Sports. Paperboy Sports is a sports broadcasting company.

Paperboy Sports is a sports broadcasting company. The company film’s games from start to finish and broadcast those games on different platforms. The production includes announcers, multiple cameras, graphics, etc. The production includes a pregame show, halftime show, and a post-game show. The purpose of the broadcasts is to highlight student-athletes. The service is free of charge.

Paperboy Sports started in 2009 in Savannah, Georgia and covered games from every public and private high school within the city. The games were broadcast on television through Comcast in the Savannah Metro area. The company covered Atlanta area schools that played in Savannah for tournaments. The company received numerous awards in Savannah including being named Unique Business of the year by the City of Savannah for 2009.

Paperboy Sports is now based in Atlanta. Instead of making Savannah schools the focus of the company, the company has decided to focus on Atlanta area schools while still covering games in Savannah. The company will start broadcasting in Metro Atlanta in fall of 2019.

Paperboy Sports was started by Tony Byrd. Tony is a 2001 graduate of Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, Ms. He is a 2006 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University where he received a bachelors in Mass Communication. Tony Byrd is a former sports anchor for WXVT TV-15 in Greenville, MS. Tony started in the broadcasting business in 2001 at WGRM radio in Greenwood, MS. WGRM Radio is the historic radio station where B.B. King started his music career. In 2005, Tony was offered a job as a radio reporter for WGRM Radio. He started at WXVT TV-15 in late 2005. Tony resigned from the TV station in 2008 to run his production companies fulltime in Savannah, Georgia.

News Boy Network started in 2007 and operated as a production company for 12 years. The company had partnership with local tv and cable stations. In 2019 the company began operating as a broadcast network.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’m a man but there have been many struggles. Learning to run a business was the biggest one that was a struggle for the first couple of years. I didn’t come from a business family or background so I had to learn from scratch.

My company is a broadcast network and production company. I create video content and broadcast that content on my network. I am most proud of the enjoyment I give to people who watch my programming and the opportunity I give the talent who work with me. What sets me apart is me. I’m a unique individual and that shows through my businesses.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The best advice I can give someone is to make money and make a lot of it.
