Today we’d like to introduce you to Xanic Dunning.
Xanic, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working for Kale Me Crazy 5 years ago when the company opened. At the time, I was working on opening my own bakery but realized how difficult it is to open a business on your own.
I decided to stay with Kale Me Crazy and Roi the owner (the CEO now) gave me the freedom to expand the menu and create new recipes.
I grew up in Mexico City drinking freshly squeezed juices every morning and eating healthy and I realized how hard it was to find good healthy food in the US.
I stayed with the company as a manager and helped open several locations until I opened my own franchise.
Today, I am an owner of a franchise and also help corporate open and train new stores.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was hard trying to open a business by myself. If you don’t know people or have a good real estate agent it’s impossible to find a good location and good vendors. That’s why I decided to franchise.
Opening a franchise was fairly easy. Everything is already in place and since it was a company that I was already working on it was piece of cake for me.
My advice for young entrepreneurs would be to choose something that they are passionate about and to not get frustrated on the road. The hardest part of opening a business it’s getting opened (setting up a business, construction, permits, etc.) Once you get there the road is easy because you are doing something you love.
We’d love to hear more about Kale Me Crazy.
We are a health conscious restaurant specializing in juices, smoothies, salads, wraps, and shots. We are best known for our Acai bowls and post workout smoothies. The shots are also very popular especially when people are feeling under the weather.
I am proud of being part of a company that cares about the product, that it’s not scared to show what’s on the label, that has expanded into franchises and the franchisees are part of a great family.
What sets us apart is that we are not just a juice bar, it’s a one-stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner or simply a middle of the day pick me up.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Don’t be scared to ask! There is a lot that goes into opening a business and people are always willing to help.
