Meet Travis Davis of FLYFE Clothing Co. in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Davis.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The idea came around about Spring 2010. Really all just a thought. I reached out to my dawgs Dot, G, Q and Art, ran it by um and they was rockin’ with it. At that time like I say really just all an idea so no product or site came about until later. G started a blog where he was placing content of what we thought FLYFE (FLY LIFE) was, it gained a lil traffic and got us rolling in a good direction. We would create designs and order single shirts from online or go to the print shop in South Dekalb mall but again we wasn’t selling nothing we was just getting our feet wet tryna figure out the business. Dec 2010 some tragic sh!t happened and my brother was killed and that threw my whole life off. Two months later my relationship ended with the girl I had been rockin with for hella years. I went into a dark spot but nobody ever knew cause I took to fashion to cover it all up.

I moved to Houston summer 2011, ain’t have a plan just needed to get away from everything that was goin on in the A. Q let me catch his sofa for a few months. Thats when my creativity kicked in. I would just be up designing day in and day out. I never loved what I came up with tho until I created the “I Luv My FLY” design. I knew that was the one when I was making it. It’s still a top seller til this day. That broken heart ended up being the logo and face of the brand. Although I was in the darkest place I’ve ever been in I still dressed it up and ain’t let the world see me off my game. I guess that was my way of turning a negative into a positive. Anyway, tho, fast forward to 2019 and we still locked and loaded with a lot more to come. 2020 will mark ten years, and the plan is to murder the fashion scene even more. LET’S GOOOOOO!!!!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Naw it ain’t been smooth, it ain’t been terrible either tho. When we started out we ain’t have no blueprint, it was all trial and error. Even a few people involved in the early stages ain’t around these days. That’s just how it is tho. There was times where I wanted to throw the towel in completely but always found a second wind before it got to that. Even more recently, around 2017 thru 2018 we took a major break, it wasn’t planned break but it just happened. We back LIT now tho so thats all that matter.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FLYFE Clothing Co. – what should we know?
We are a clothing brand that’s just staying true to what we think is FLY. We want to keep providing consistent classic designs for our following. Thats how we came in, thats what we known for and thats what we most proud of. Staying true to ourselves and allowing the world to join in. I think what set FLYFE apart from others is the fact that everything is done in house. No middle man. We design our own stuff, print our own stuff, package and ship our own stuff. Me personally, I don’t wear anything else but FLYFE I don’t know a lot of people with brands that’s FLY as phuck, that’s only rockin what they create.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Most importantly the gang. Dot, G, Q and Art. Dem my brothas. Sh!t wouldn’t be where it’s at now without um. My lil cousin Meat too, he showed me how to operate all the equipment I use today to cut the middle man out. Then I got that girl that I mentioned early that dumped me in 2011 who is now my soon to be wife in a few months. She really the reason sh!t got back jumpin’. I had fell off with it to be honest and everyday she would get on my azz about how I got the people waiting for new product. I just wasn’t there tho, I had hit a slump. So she started designing sh!t herself and was on me daily until I finally got that fire back. So um forever grateful for @glamamy.
