Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Moya.
Trent, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began on July 12, 1996. I was born in Summit New Jersey but raised in the rural mountains of the Poconos. Growing up, my family didn’t have a surplus of money but we always did our best to make ends meet. From living through these difficult times in my childhood, it has taught me the true value of a dollar. My father used to always say to me, “always be the boss in every situation you are in, never be an employee. What he said really resonated with me. I then took those words as inspiration to form my own ways of revenue. I began working to make my own money even though I was only 13 years old. My father was a big source of inspiration but the main source steamed from my grandmother. Growing up, my grandmother was very loving and nurturing. When we would visit her, there was always a surplus of sweets such as baked goods. My grandmother is the one who taught me the joys of baking and she is my inspiration behind every cake that I make today. As I got older, Sports started to influence my life and my ultimate career goals. But in 2010, my grandmother had passed away from leukemia. Before she had passed away, she told me to take some time and go to a culinary arts school because she knew how much I admire baking.
Once I graduated high school, I decided to take one year to learn how to bake. When in school, I truly fell in love with the art of cake making. Right then and there, I decided to strive to be the best cake maker in the world. Even though I made this my goal it hasn’t come easy. In college, I did face multiple obstacles one was not having a vehicle. This meant I had to walk 6 miles everyday back and forth to school. As well as working two jobs and being a full-time student to maintain my apartment. Once I finish school finally I moved to New Jersey where I worked in a plethora of different bakeries. During this stage, I began working at a bakery called Cinderella’s Bakery, and I learned everything I know from my amazing teacher Julio. He taught me everything I know. He taught me everything there is about Cakes as well as different techniques that not many people do today. From then on, I started practicing at home to hone in on my skills. In October of 2016, I decided to move to Atlanta to pursue my dream of becoming a business owner. I faced many adversities when I came down some of which being finding clientele, creating delicious and unique flavors, as well as trying to find a name for myself.
Has it been a smooth road?
No it hasn’t, some of the struggles I’ve faced were finding customers, creating a reasonable price, and discovering my own style and name.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
