Today we’d like to introduce you to Trew Wilson.
Hi Trew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised Floridian, from North Florida and also where I reside today is where the story starts and I am pleased to share moments in time that have brought me to be the person I am today. Born Tanasia Wright, but now Tanasia Wilson I was raised by a single mother who worked many jobs throughout my life, but what I know her to be is a master cosmetologist. My father was a truck driver and a DJ for majority of my life. he now is in real estate. There is no surprise that these two creative may get a creative child. Throughout most of my childhood I was always interested in fashion, hair, clothes, glitz and glam. Very young I knew I liked nice things but no clue on how to get them. until one day, my mom told me “girl you have champagne taste with beer pockets.” and from that day forth, I knew I had to find a way to hustle. very young hair came naturally to me growing up in a hair salon watching my mom do client after client after client. So of course I would find ways to practice and try to figure out how to get this thing called Braiding down. I would say that it was about 13 years old when I really was able to start to put these skills to practice to make my first entrepreneurial dollar. I did things like braiding, friends, and my sister’s hair along with their little sisters. I also had a creative niche for the computer. I can’t remember friends asking me to customize. They’re my space pages and I would charge like five dollars per page. The older I got the more I liked this taste for supply and demand having a craft that I could get returned for. I can remember in high school having three different trades that offered me a space of self independence. At this point, I had just transferred it back to my hometown after relocating from Charlotte, North Carolina. That experience left me with so many advantages to bring back home and expand my creative catalog, even more. So now I’m braiding, hair distressing jeans, creating T-shirts, selling clothing, all of what you could think a young entrepreneur starts out as. but I will say hair carried me the longest and it is still around to this day. Finishing high school I wasn’t sure what I quite wanted to be outside of a Wife and Mother and i knew i wanted Money!! but I always remember my mom telling me “just go ahead and get the hair license Tanasia even if you don’t use it.” distracted by a many of things of course I did not do that and immediately I went straight into the workforce working with children for most of my young 20s. and even then hair was still around I will always find my self some kind of way in somebody’s head. at 24 I relocated and move to Atlanta, Georgia with my now husband and our two children. In Georgia I was presented with many opportunities, such as working in a make-up studio as a receptionist also working alongside some of the most flyers hairstylist that Atlanta could offer while also attending one of the most hyped hair schools ever the Paul Mitchell. turning 25 in ATL has been marked as the first iconic time in my life. Living in Georgia, let a new fire in me experiencing support and love on a whole new level in the rooms I was positioning myself in. those six months definitely changed me for the better. having to move back home after short to no notice really shook something up in me to know that that wasn’t the end – that wasn’t the last time ATL would see me. it took me a few years to bounce back and regather myself, but there is definitely beauty and redemption. so at 29 I am proud to say that I am those things that I manifested a wife and a mother of 3 children -Over the years, I must admit I have had much time to consider my future, and it comes to me quite like this. There are many things I love such as hair, fashion, photography, nurturing, cooking, modeling, production, acting singing, design, and entertaining. while listing these things, I have found that being a stay at home, mother allows me the space to fill all of these creative jars. And even though I plan to certify in perfect and continuously practice my crafts I know there’s space for me to do all these things. my calling is to serve therefore, I know entrepreneurship is me has been me always will be me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had its fair share of turns, bumps, dips, and cracks. many times i didn’t understand just how much adversity me family would be up against things such as limited resources, living spaces compromised, being on government assistance programs my entire life and even as an adult. Navigating friends in my youth and those complications following me right into my twenties. even in all the struggles one thing i can almost remember is watching my mother make a way which has followed me as well as an adult. Not enough money seems to always be at the top of struggle conversations and i’ll like to add joy to that list. not having enough joy and gratitude when i was younger was definitely a struggle with more of that i feel like a lot of those other things would’ve have no way to survive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I do right now is full time Mom mode. for the last two years i have been a “stay at home mom” while doing this i have been able to sharpen and specialize in my creative niches such as focusing on hair design, cooking, and photography! i am most known for styling hair and bringing the best dish to the potluck. i am most proud of my children even tho they are still in age of adolescence they display good character, moral behavior, and powerful insight. They are more then i ever was at there age and i always say even if none of this ground work pays off in my life i will have sculpted the perfect foundation for them to capture any opportunity they are appointed. The things that set me apart from my peers i would have to say my consideration i have for people my eagerness to be of service. and my work ethic believing that you do it right and try your best the first time for your best outcome. and always to remember to treat others how i would like to be treated.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
i would like to share a tip that has helped me be blind to anything that may try to disturb or distract me and that is to always affirm yourself. Constantly speak life into you and tell yourself your trust yourself tell yourself you are capable! Know that this world is set up to try and pull you further way from believing that Good is meant for you and you having a strong self mind is better then a million people telling you – you can.
