Meet Trey Robbins of AllStar Alarms & Sound in Monroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Robbins.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started working in the Low Voltage industry about 16 years ago. I was hired to install Dish Network satellite dishes for a local alarm company and after about 1.5 years of doing this daily, I started cross training into burglar alarm installations. I have always been intrigued by wiring car stereos and small electronics so once I started installing burglar alarms, it came very naturally to me. I climbed the ladder very quickly and eventually decided it would be in my family’s best interest to venture out onto my own. After working for my employer for about 7 years, I decided I would open my own burglar alarm company. I have always been an athlete. Competing in soccer, basketball, and baseball so it seemed fitting to call our new business AllStar Alarms & Sound and to have our tagline to be “Nobody Beats An AllStar”. This represents our commitment to our customers that we will do everything necessary to provide the best products, services and prices available. During our second year of our new business we welcomed our first child, Taylor RyAnne, during our 6th year we welcomed our second child, Olivia Reagan, and presently we are expecting our third child, Rocco Koi. Family is extremely important to my wife, Holly, and I.

We opened our first storefront location last February in beautiful, Downtown Monroe, Ga. Our building was built over 100 years ago and it was a fun, but challenging, task to display today’s newest technology without jeopardizing the integrity of our beautiful building. We have the best staff ever. Jonathan Hix is our lead alarm technician while Samantha Medlin does a fantastic job for us handling all of our office needs. I try to be on every job that AllStar has at the moment. With our growing business, it is becoming harder and harder to do so. Thankfully, Jonathan is stepping in and handling the majority of our daily work load.

Our business is really taking off duo to the continuing support of the many builders, homeowners and business owners that we have been blessed to do work for in the past. With the development of newer technology that allows alarm users the advantage of not only protecting their assets with a security system, but also giving the abilities to unlock doors, adjust thermostats, turn lights on or off, view video cameras remotely, etc. our business is seeing a dramatic increase. New technology, trusted manufacturers and our great service. What a great combination.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, I would say it hasn’t the smoothest of roads. Our business launch was filled with 100% confidence. That, however, changed pretty quickly. Our business plan was highly dependent on the building industry. Initially, the building industry was booming. About a year after we went into business for ourselves, we had our first experience with the building industry crash. We had done many jobs for a particular local builder and used the majority of our savings to purchase the equipment needed for these particular jobs, soon to realize that the builder had no money left and left us high and dry on the amounts that he owed us. It was a very stressful time for my wife and I, but we pushed through. We slowly received one job after another and were able to get everything back to normal.

This situation made us work even harder and we developed some great relationships with builders and homeowners that we still do work for to this date.

AllStar Alarms & Sound is a full service low voltage contractor. We hold the highest low voltage license for the state of Georgia which allows us to work on all aspects of low voltage wiring and systems. We specialize in residential burglar alarm systems and audio systems. From hanging flat screen TVs and installing sound bars and surround sound systems, installing video surveillance systems that can be viewed remotely on a smartphone or tablet, installing security systems for protection as well as convenience of a wide variety of Z-Wave devices to control door locks, thermostats, lights, etc., as well as restaurant and commercial buildings back-ground music and intercom systems.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diverseness of Atlanta. I love providing systems that allow our local businesses to stand out among their competition. I love walking down the sidewalk and hearing music that we have been a part of or seeing TV’s or projection systems displaying the current game or today’s news.

My least favorite thing about Atlanta is the traffic. You really have to plan ahead and make the best of every moment that you have.
