Today we’d like to introduce you to The Trillmatic One.
The Trillmatic One, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When it comes to my story, music has always been something I’ve loved. I got inspired by my older brother when I was 11 or 12. He used to and still makes some of the hardest beats out here. Between him playing the keyboard and drums at church to making beats, it was easy for me to pick up a passion for making music. I never could actually make beats back then because I was just getting into sports, but, I tried and no lie, I was terrible. Ha. A few years passed and I got injured during my first season of college football. During that time I had to make a decision of what I wanted to do with my life and under difficult circumstances, I decided to get back into making beats and pursue a career in music production as well finishing school. Since then, I’ve worked with recording artists like Retro Spectro, OG Maco, Lang Amaru, and Kris Tha Konnect.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everyday is a good day. To get any further than I did yesterday is great to me. The overall journey to now hasn’t been easy at all. There are times when it’s been easy to cook up, record, or mix songs for people, and then there are times when I can only focus on school and that itself can be hard to allow me to do anything else. I wouldn’t call school a struggle but there’s definitely a time constraint that comes with being in school. Doing homework, working on group projects, staying up until 4 and 5 AM studying for tests. All these things come into play when I want to make more music and even just enjoy the time I can have away from school. The only other struggle for me that I’ve had is networking in previous years. Sometimes, I’ve seriously tried too hard and I’m glad I had some producers in the game already that helped me out and got me where I am today. I love my journey through. With me graduating soon and more opportunities coming in, I couldn’t be more happy with where life is taking me. I’m happy to have met my lifelong friends at Valdosta State University, and happy to see what God has in store for me.
Please tell us about Trill Fiends.
At Trill Fiends, we’re TRILL. Which stands for Turning Rejections Into Life Lessons. This acronym is how I get through everyday life and also how I’ve learned to let go of anger and relax a little more about the rejections I get and focus more on why I got those rejections. I turn all those unread DM’s from artists and those replies that I wait for from labels and turn that into me working harder on beats, getting a name for myself and doing everything I can to be a better version of myself. I specialize in that drip, that sauce, that flavor that can only be made by The Trillmatic One. What sets me apart is my overall happiness and passion for producing and cooking up the best beats possible. I believe in quality over quantity and I love to think of what I can do in every beat to make them slap just a little harder than the one I made before. I’m very happy to have worked with the artists that I’ve worked with and glad that I could have even the slightest chance of making it one step further to working with artists that I’ve always wanted to work with.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is being back home in Mississippi with all my cousins and all my family just watching TV at my Aunty Helen’s house in the living room while Tom & Jerry had us rolling for days. Those were the days. When nothing mattered except for having as much fun as I could before I had to go back to Savannah. Those summers were too much fun and I’ll never forget them.
