Meet Tristan Blake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Blake.

Tristan Blake

Hi Tristan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My name is Tristan Blake born and raised in Washington DC of Caribbean descent of Trinidad and Tobago. I’ve been here in Atlanta, Georgia, for now, 12 years. I got my exposure to Fashion at a very young age from my late grandmother being a seamstress and my late uncle being a costume designer. I took a sewing class in second grade, which I absolutely hated; however, later on, around the age of 12, I became very intrigued by watching my grandmother sew and being around my uncle as he made costumes. I then started to sew with my grandmother and also help my uncle create costumes in Mas Camp (which is where all the beautiful costumes are created). Once I entered high school, I started sewing and putting in my clothes in the fashion shows, and by 11th grade, I was making winter ball dresses and prom dresses for fellow students, which started my career in fashion.

I have been featured in Essence Magazine, headline designer for BET Fashion x Runway show, selected Twice at HFR designer retreat as Top 10 designers in the Nike Design challenge, and had the pleasure to work with celebrities such as Teyana Taylor,  Celebrity Stylist June Ambrose, Usher, Miss Lawrence to name a few.
I’m excited that my brand Tristan Blake Collection will continue to evolve and has some new  exciting  projects that is soon be shared with the world. Gearing up to launch my new Fashion series titled Blake Backstage Fashion Chats, this is where I talk to friends in the fashion industry and  also clients About Their personal style journey, haute trends, Haute topics in fashion, we share some knowledge and it even gets a little juicy with the haute box question. This show was created to Have transparent, honest and fun conversations about Fashion and hopefully inspire the audience with their personal style journey.  We are set to Lauch the first episode in May.
Lastly, The question where they ask me what sets me apart From others, I also wanted to elaborate on work ethic. My work ethic is unmatched! I think to be successful it first starts with great work ethic and that’s something I take pride in. There is a clear distinction and experience when you work with me and you work with someone else.  It’s truly the best experience.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly. It has been smooth, however there’s always challenges along the way. Fashion is one of the hardest industries to get your foot in the door and make a successful career out of it. One of my struggles I would say is being able to juggle my direct-to-consumer custom business while also trying to be consistent with my brand Tristan Blake Collection and pushing out collections each year. Another challenge is having the substantial capital to start mass production for high-end clothing. It’s not as easy as it looks, and it takes full dedication.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Tristan Blake Collection Is a fashion brand where I specialize in custom design, and I specialize womenswear. I’m known for being able to create beautiful gowns, well-constructed garments, and a variety of what I can offer to my customers… Though womenswear is my specialty, I also create for men as well, even kids. I have a wide variety of clientele which ranges from everyday women to corporate women, all the way to celebrities. I think what sets me apart from other designers is that I literally can make anything which gives leverage in this space as a Fashion designer.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people would be surprised that I can sing. I went to Duke Ellison School of the Arts for high school, and my major was vocal music… I love music and various genres, but you probably would never hear me sing in person lol.
