Meet Tristen King of Bowden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristen King.

Hi Tristen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got my first camera as a graduation gift after high school. I learned how to use that camera until a friend gave me the opportunity to photograph her wedding. My first wedding was in 2019, I found my self super busy with college and did not have time to purse my photography. As I got close to getting my degree in computer programming, I picked my camera up and fell back in love with taking pictures. Fast forward a few years and I found my self working at a wedding venue as staff. It was there that I realized I love making someones special day be the best day it can. That job landed me a couple weddings to photograph over the years. This brings us to where I am today. I moved away from working staff at a venue and put my time into pouring what I knew about weddings into how to capture not just photos but learn the film making side. This past year in 2024, I rebranded my company TKing Production to not just be a photography company. I started filming weddings, now do I not only get to help the bride and groom have their special day. I get to tell their love story through my camera.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At first it I thought it would be a smooth road, I guess ever business owner does. Some of the struggles that I had along the way is not putting the time in to learn how to sell and market my services. I am learning more and more everyday on how to do that. The wedding industry can be oversaturated in photographers and videographers. The hardest struggle is to show why that client should hire you. Another thing I struggled with is comparing my self to others. I used to look at videographers and say that I could never film the way they do. Now I can say that I can and I don’t let comparing my self to others hold me back.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in wedding Photography and Videography. I hear from people who follow my social media that my wildlife photography is cool. I would say what I am most proud of is, I used to compare my self to other creatives and put my self down saying I could never be that good. I am proud of that now because I don’t compare my work with anyone. Everyone has a different style and unique way they capture things. I would say the thing that sets me apart from most wedding photographers and videographers is I do full day packages. I don’t limit my self on time to capture and tell the clients story.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say landing a job at a wedding venue was good luck. Now I personally believe that God had a plan in that luck. If I didn’t work at that venue, I would have never truly know that I love weddings. Working as staff, gave me the knowledge on how wedding days should go.
