Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Wade.
Ben, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Trove started back in Gainesville, Fla. I’d been working on different film and video projects since I was in high school, but it had always been for fun. I didn’t really consider it a career. It seemed impossible to turn something fun like that into an actual job. So, I went to college for multimedia journalism and took a job in a corporate media department. That only lasted about two years due to a massive company restructuring.
When I knew my job was coming to an end, I figured why not get serious about video. I had a photographer friend who shot lots of weddings, so I thought I could try doing some weddings with him. So, I didn’t look for another job and just went for it. I got the business license, some new gear, and started Trove.
I did a few weddings with my friend, but frankly, I did not enjoy it. Shooting it was fine, but editing six hours of a wedding … not an enjoyable task. Most of my early clients were either churches or corporate businesses, and the business grew pretty quickly.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a relatively smooth process along the way. Trove has grown exponentially since the business was moved up to Atlanta. As most people know, the film and video industry are getting bigger and bigger so we are in a great spot. That was the main motivation in moving up here.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Trove Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Most people know when they’re being advertised to, so Trove’s goal is to brings style to commercial video. We make videos that entertain and move audiences rather than just sell them a product. We walk our clients through the entire process of making a video: writing, shooting, and editing. In the end, they’ll have a video that invests their audience further into their brand, rather than just talks at them.
We have so many different clients, but I’m very proud of the video work we’ve done within the Atlanta theater community. We work with folks like Serenbe Playhouse and Theatrical Outfit to promote their plays and give audiences an early taste of the work. The goal is to entice the audience with the hopes that they’ll have a few questions they can only answer if they see the play. Those projects are incredibly fun, and tend to be more narrative focused.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I grew up in Ocala, Fla. so to me, Atlanta has just about everything. I’ve never been too picky about where I live, as long as I can occasionally get out and do something other than work. I do love that Atlanta has so many little neighborhoods. It makes the city feel small and connected. However, I am not a huge fan of the way Atlanta fills in potholes. Those giant metal slabs? Really?
