Meet Tyeal Howell of Made in Tyeal in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyeal Howell.

Tyeal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating from college in Ohio at The University of Akron, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to move to Los Angeles for a summer video production internship with my dream company at the time, Blavity. The only problem was that I had the hot $500 from my graduation party to work with. I spent that summer being as creative as possible and building relationships with the people I admired. I also fell in love with palm trees and found ways to make ends meet through freelancing. After that summer was up, I was hungry for my next opportunity in Los Angeles and eager to learn the ins and outs of media production. I interned for social media influencers while sleeping on couches and freelancing to make ends meet. My friends and I used to talk all the time about how often creatives have to sacrifice their lifestyles in order to live their dreams and I’ve experienced that first hand. I’ve done everything from capturing #OOTD Instagram stories for influencers, sending out pitch decks to big-budget brands, creative directing shoots, writing scripts and organizing call sheets to launching my very own podcast with my best friend who lived on the other side of the country. My moves all came full circle when I received my first full-time job offer with one of the leading conferences for female entrepreneurs- Create & Cultivate. With this team, I quickly worked my way up into a Digital Marketing Manager position and hustled. With a capital H.

My original goal for moving to Los Angeles was to gain confidence in myself and my skills and career path. After my time as the Digital Marketing Manager at Create & Cultivate, I felt that I accomplished just that. So, I picked up my things and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to take my skills and passions to the next level with entrepreneurship. My creative marketing studio, Made in Tyeal, serves small businesses with digital marketing strategies to turn their followers into dollars in the bank.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think the biggest challenge I faced was shifting my mindset. When you’re in the right headspace, you can truly recognize any challenge or obstacle for the learning experience that it is.

I’ve had negative balances in my bank account, lived on couches, felt isolated and alone being thousands of miles away from home. People have owed me hundreds of dollars, boyfriends have come and gone, friendships have grown stronger and further apart, role models have turned out to be not that impressive close-up in person, etc.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned from my mentor Ms. Patricia is that life is fluid and the downs are so necessary for the ups to even take place. I’ve come to understand the importance of self-love, boundaries, and confidence. I’m so grateful for all of the challenges and all of the obstacles. I wouldn’t be in this position without them.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Made in Tyeal story. Tell us more about the business.
Made in Tyeal is a strategic creative marketing studio. I offer small business owners a clear strategy and much-needed positivity around their marketing goals and their long term plans for their business.

As creatives, dealing with the business side of your actual business reduces your joy and passion for the creativity behind everything. That’s where I step in, as the strategic executor for communicating your message to your online audience. I specialize in creative direction, copywriting for social media and email marketing, digital campaigns with social influencers, photography and much more. My passion lies in the black community and I love helping black business owners reach their next level and elevate their marketing techniques.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. Faith is what has played the biggest role in my life and business success. Faith in myself and in God. I believe God’s oversight has contributed the most to my success. Since I know that my destiny has already been written and my path has been decided for me, I don’t contribute anything to luck whether it is good or bad, it just is. Everything that happens to me is an experience for me to live and breathe through. Every relationship, business opportunity, career move, life move, health experience, everything is just an experience. I believe my God has had my back through it all with a clear purpose.
