Meet Tyler Jones of Tymjon in Downtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Jones.

Tyler, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing photography halfway through my freshman year in college during a time when I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Luckily for me, I had a camera that my brother gave to me a couple of years ago to jumpstart my journey. It collected some dust for a while but one day I decided to just go out and shoot with it and then my friend and fellow artist, Jalen Amir, asked for me to be the photographer for this big project he had at the time. From then on to today, I would be doing projects with him, other artists, and my own projects myself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I honestly have enjoyed every second of the journey and up to this point and haven’t had many struggles, I guess. If anything, I would say refining my style and developing my voice in my art has been something that I am continually reflecting on. I don’t necessarily look at them as struggles more so as growth that has to happen.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a photographer that specializes in portrait and fashion photography set out to highlight the beauty of black people. I’m most proud of my work ethic and how much time I put into perfecting my craft. I believe my flexible nature and my mindset to always experiment and try different approaches with my art is something I find unique with myself.

What were you like growing up?
From the words of my mom, I was “a jokester, very inquisitive, and extremely playful“ as a child. I played football for nine years so sports have always been big to me but shockingly basketball is by far my favorite sport to watch and play though. My interests have always varied but I would say I have a deep love for music not necessarily making it but developing great taste, discovering new artists, and listening to the music my parents listened to when they grew up. Also, I have a love for films and short visuals, they give me the most inspiration and help me create a lot of my work as well!
