Meet Tyler Luker of Buzzard Cult in Calhoun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Luker.

Tyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We all started off just being avid fans of music. We all like many different styles and genres so we all have a lot of different influences. We all have a common love for rock and roll music, specifically punk and grunge styles. Marcus and I were kicking songs around and jamming all the time, and I was playing bass at Cody’s solo shows, so we all just decided to join forces and start the band.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been an obstacle getting used to performing original material in front of people. It was hard for me to show songs I had come up with to the boys in the band because it’s just a strange and vulnerable kind of feeling I wasn’t used too. It’s still hard a hard thing to do, but it gets easier in time. Not having a lot of money for gear and merchandise is also a constant obstacle, but we just try and get what we need one piece at a time.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Buzzard Cult story. Tell us more about the band.
We’re like a grunge/punk rock band. It’s hard to really drill down what genre we are within rock and roll music, which is something I’m proud of. It’s always hard to answer the question, but having a somewhat unique style is something I’ve always enjoyed in other bands. We’re always kind of an oddball group that is not as fast as a lot of punk bands, not as heavy as some metal bands, and heavier than some rock bands, but I feel as though we pair pretty well with all three. I really enjoy all styles, so being able to play with a wide variety of local bands is always exciting for me.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I hope to be playing more out of state shows in that time frame, and really just hitting the road as often as we can. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to be a part of a touring band, so that’s ultimately my goal.
