Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Parks.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I like to think my company started with divine intervention. I previously lived and worked in Chicago at Chicago Playground Varsity Collegiate Clothing Line as an Assistant Creative Director to the CEO. While working with him I found myself doing a lot of visuals through the use of his iPhone 5. Upon seeing the results, he asked if I had ever considered getting a real camera. Needless to say, the wheels started turning.
I invested my own money in equipment and started researching to better educate myself in photography, videography and editing. I found it fascinating and an extremely useful element when it comes to brand development and marketing. Furthermore, I began to truly value the importance of creating memories at that time due to the loss of my parents. They are my true inspiration and I feel they guide me along my journey.
During my tenure with Chicago Playground, we traveled to Atlanta for business about twice a month. Every time we traveled I saw owls. Owl pictures, statues, welcome mats, paintings and the list goes on. Being an observant person led me to name my company not only after the owl but all inclusive of what the owl represents; intuitive knowledge, life transition, all-seeing, wisdom, etc. The owl also led me to a new home, Atlanta, Georgia.
I literally left my life in Chicago on a wing and a prayer. I had been working at the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation for 3 years at the time and following my dreams on the side. I was ready to quit working for someone else and take my career full-time. With the help of my good friends Briana Cooley and Krystle Cooley, I was able to relocate within a month of me leaving my day job. Shortly after Krystle introduced me to Elaya Walker and we have been inseparable since. I eventually had to get another day job in Atlanta but before that, Myself along with Krystle and Briana Cooley started our YouTube channel 2Taboo4You documenting our very Taboo living situation. Of course, the day job thing didn’t last too long and I, once again, stepped out on faith and took my business full-time.
The four of us (myself, Elaya, Krystle and Briana) ended up being roommates and magic happened. We all worked together to create solid plans starting our businesses; Kreative Customz (CEO Krystle Cooley), Brio Stylez (CEO Briana Cooley), CreativeFreedomCo (CEO Elaya Walker) and my company, Omni Owl Productions. To this day, we work together to create our freedom and make our dreams become reality.
Because my company initially started in Chicago, I travel back and forth from Atlanta to Chicago building my business. I’ve even expanded my services and have started to incorporate freelancers to my team so that I am able to focus on the development of my brand, marketing, advertising, and creating a solid platform to uplift the entrepreneurs and artists that I am blessed to work with. I am currently Creative Director for Attack The Sound Band and CreativeFreedomCo. I have been beyond blessed to work with and around David Banner, Chance The Rapper, Taylor Bennet, Bianca Shaw, Jamal Woolard, Richard Gallion, Ace Davinci, Sharmon Jarmon, Mother Nature Bars and the list goes on.
The best feeling in the world is when I tell my 5-year-old niece with full confidence that she can be anything she wants to be in life as long as she never gives up.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have endured many struggles along my journey. Homelessness, hunger, no money at all, losing friends and family, being ridiculed for my decisions and missed opportunities. I didn’t go to college for the field that I am in. Instead, I learned what I know about my business from research, experience, and being analytically observant.
That in itself is a challenge. But the hardest yet most satisfying thing I’ve dealt with was losing myself and being reborn. The saying, “You have to do things differently to get different results,” is very true indeed. Literally abandoning my ways of thinking, living, feeling and even prioritizing is by far the hardest, most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do.
