Meet Tyler Schofer of Brookhaven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Schofer

Hi Tyler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up playing tennis from a young age. My father was a director at a tennis club so my days after school were spent playing at the club and seeing how he taught other players. After junior tennis, I pursued tennis at the collegiate level. I played four years at the varsity level for Wingate University. Upon graduation, I began teaching tennis part time, which eventually to a full time position as a Head Tennis Professional in NC. In 2020 I moved to Atlanta, GA and began to develop a client base from Buckhead to Roswell and everywhere in between. Currently I travel to clients throughout the Northside of Atlanta teaching clients of all levels.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With the line of work I do, word of mouth is extremely important in gaining traction for new clientele. Fortunately I have developed a reputation of professionalism and creating a fun learning environment for my clients. The road was not easy, and hours are very long some days, however the stress of finding clients has subsided for now. Every day is a new challenge. Being able to balance scheduling and teaching can take up much of my time. When I am not on the court, I am responding to clients and scheduling future lessons. Weekends are my time I have designated for myself, but many hours are still dedicated to filling in slots for the coming week.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a private tennis professional, serving the Northside of Atlanta and its suburbs. My clientele primarily consists of adults who are regularly playing ALTA and USTA tennis. I travel to their personal court or neighborhood. Since Atlanta is the largest tennis city in the country (per capita) there is no shortage of players looking to improve! I specialize in beginner level adults all the way to high level players who have experience in college and are playing in their later years. I believe I am most proud of my reputation and ability to teach to a vast array of learners. Not everyone learns the same way. I tell my clients all the time “it is my job to get you to do what I want you do achieve.” If they cannot execute, it is a reflection of my teaching, not their ability to learn.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My father has been the biggest influence on my teaching ability. As a tennis director himself, I am grateful to have learned many drills and coaching techniques from him. I constantly am keeping an open mind from high level coaches online, however being able to discern what is effective and what is gimmicky is something I have come to learn as well.
