Meet Tymain Robbins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tymain Robbins.

Tymain, before we jump into specific questions about your music, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A story is always important for any creative. I’m from N.C. and I’ve been rapping since the age of four years old. I come from a musical family and I was always in tune with writing from an early age. My uncle actually penned my first rhyme, and since then it’s been history. I began taking it seriously around 14. My parents split up when I was 13. My pops moved to Atlanta, and my mom’s stayed in NC. I went back and forth and it was always cool to experience the city of Atlanta that has produced so much talent for the music industry. Being within the culture shifted my creativity in a positive fashion.

A lot of what I have been through shapes the music that I make. I’m vulnerable, honest and I do not shy away from incorporating my faith in God into my artistry. I recently moved back to North Carolina and I currently reside in Charlotte with a focus of increasing the strides the city has been making.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. If it was easy, everyone could do it. But through these struggles you find purpose. I’ve been hit with self-doubt, shattered beliefs, personal issues, overthinking and that’s normal. But do you fold or rise up when times get tough? I was so focused on impressing others through music and proving them wrong when I was the only person I needed to prove anything to.

A key struggle has been of late. After graduating college in 2018, I didn’t have a plan or the funds to back my passion in music, and I fell into post-grad depression. I applied for hundreds of jobs but got hit with the “we were impressed by other candidates…” Eventually, got a 9 to 5 with AT&T corporate, moved to Dallas, moved back. But through all of this, I realized me providing 40 hours per week to took so much time away from me chasing my dreams, writing lyrics and listening to beats. Then it didn’t make me happy. The paychecks supported me financially, but I wasn’t happy. My next full-length project will detail my life after college and the struggles that I faced mentally.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
I am a Hip-Hop artist and songwriter. In terms of my artistry, you can place me in the conscious realm. I want my listeners to feel what I’m saying. When I convey my messages, I want the words to resonate within the souls of my audience to give chills and tingles in spines while relating on a level beyond the surface. I like to be very vulnerable, but I also enjoy utilizing witty wordplay that makes the listener have to rewind five times.

I’m set apart from others in a sense of where my mindset is. I don’t fall into trends, what others are doing, or what’s the wave currently. My favorite scripture is Romans 12:2, and the ways of this world are not for me, I am transformed by the renewing of my mind. This music is purposeful for me. This what I am here to do. God granted me the gift to inspire and educate through words and that’s what I intend to do while on this Earth.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
COViD-19 has changed everyone’s plans drastically. However, my plan for the future is continuous growth and taking that leap of faith. I don’t plan to be working my 9 to 5 by years end. It’s in the works to fully invest into my craft and my brand as a whole. I’m looking forward to manifesting my aspirations, growing spiritually and taking over the music game.

Also, I will be releasing an EP called Thanks In Advance and it will be available on all streaming platforms August 1st. This is my first body of work in over 2 years, so I’m definitely excited to put out new music. I recently collaborated with Footaction for their #CouchMusic platform, so that should be featured on their page very soon.
