Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty’Reanna Harris.
Hi Ty’Reanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2020, I was a second-year student in Seminary. I started to recognize my fellow seminarians seemed to be figuring out what they wanted to do with their degrees and who they wanted to be in the world. The light wasn’t clicking for me and I thought to myself, surely I have spent all this time in this program and not know what comes after it. So in the middle of a pandemic, while everyone was adjusting to the “New Normal” I did some soul-searching and remembered I still had my camera. I wasn’t thinking “Oh I’m going to be a Photographer/ Digital Media Powerhouse” (My words lol) but I was thinking I needed something to help me rescue myself from my imposter syndrome and then I became what I was searching for. Taking Photos, Social Media Management, Branding, and Marketing taught me how to truly be free. I became a Creative because creativity saved my life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been by far the most exhausting and passionate part of my life. I didn’t know you could love the things that frustrate you! I developed a business during the pandemic, a time when we couldn’t gather together. It was hard and for a while, I thought I made the wrong moves. My challenges were more about believing that this was the right time to do such a huge thing. I had clients cancel mins before their shoot, not show up, the money wasn’t coming in and I had to balance it all while in the most challenging part of my life. I spent a lot of time sick in bed and when I did have the energy, creativity was the furthest thing from my mind. Why didn’t I just throw in the towel then, well I read a quote from Viola Davis and it has become the reason I wake up every day and create. During her Emmy acceptance speech, she said, “I became an artist — and thank God I did — because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Self-taught Photographer and Digital Media Consultant! (That feels good to say and type) It is who I firmly am at the core of myself. It is my Passion, my Practice, and my Proclamation. To be both makes me technical and artistic, Photographers are responsible for the digital or physical development of their images from start to finish, and as a Digital Media Consultant, I am well-versed in digital channels, platforms, tools, and techniques. I help businesses and organizations create and implement strategies in marketing, public relations, web development, branding, and related digital fields. I specialize in Outside Photography because I believe in natural light.
What I am most proud of in my art is how well my self-taught eye notices the beauty in every moment, that is why I can point and shoot! As a businesswoman, I am proud to be a black woman in a field that doesn’t usually make room for Black women to create in such a way that makes our souls come alive, our hearts smile and our feet never touch the floor!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love collaborating with others! Send me an email and let’s create big. To support my business, people can follow me on all social media platforms and book a shoot. I am “colurmety” on social media platforms.
