Meet Tyric Bacon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyric Bacon.

Hi Tyric, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved to create, even from a very young age. I quickly realized that I found the most joy in creating when filmmaking was the medium. I received my first camera when I was twelve years old. It was an old VHS camcorder and I would spend most of my time outside making mini-movies with my younger siblings. As I grew older, my passion for filmmaking grew as well. I was eager to learn everything that went into it; the screenplay, the editing, the cinematography, etc. I was like a sponge, constantly soaking up as much material as I could, whether it be from videos on YouTube or school. My junior and senior years of high school were especially formative in regard to my filmmaking journey. I enrolled in my school’s film program where students were taught all aspects of filmmaking. From pre-production, production, and post-production. We were also taught the marketing aspect as well, like how to properly pitch an idea or story. It’s in this class where I learned all of the necessary work that needs to be done in order to bring creative stories to life. I am forever grateful for that experience. It’s one of the factors that have helped me get to the place where I am at. That and consistency. I think it’s important for everyone to know that any dream or passion you have will not work if you are not consistent and disciplined with the actions you take.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all. Like everyone in life, I’ve hit bumps in the road and stumbled. But I’ve learned to view the struggles and hardships I’ve faced as learning moments and stepping stones along this path that I am walking. The struggles I’ve faced have been both internal and external. In the past, my internal struggles mainly consisted of self-doubt. Negative thinking and unhealthy thought patterns that hindered my creativity and made me question who I was. My external struggles were primarily lack of funding and resources. As a young black boy growing up in Dekalb county, there weren’t many resources available to me that could help fuel my creativity and bring the stories I had in my head into reality. But like so many before me, I overcame these obstacles. Building up my confidence and understanding who I truly am silenced those doubts in my mind. And the passion in my heart was a fire that would not be put out so when my environment had no tools or resources for me, I made my own. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become grateful for the challenges I’ve faced throughout my journey. I do not think I would appreciate where I am in life as much if it had been a smooth road.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m primarily known for my TikTok account. I started in 2020 and have amassed nearly 1 million followers and 32 million likes across my videos. I create comedic sketches about various topics, most often around zodiacs. I’ve been able to monetize my page and branch off into different things. An example of this is my clothing business, which has brought me so much success. Through TikTok, I’ve been given many opportunities that I am truly grateful for. These opportunities include brand deals with large companies such as Invisalign as well as being able to showcase my skills and creativity to the world. I’m proud of the community that I’ve built with my followers and love all of the people that support me and my content.

What’s next?
I feel a huge shift is about to happen in my life. I really want to reconnect to that twelve years old kid again. The kid that would spend his days making mini movies outside. I want to get back to my roots and begin telling original stories that I am passionate about. I’m ready to shift from content creator to filmmaker. There’s this one story that’s been continuously poking at me for the past year and I feel very called to move forward on it. I’m currently in production of a short film based on this story and it will be released later this year. Above all else, I ready to start pouring all my creativity into specific creative projects instead of generic content for people to swipe past. As a content creator, to keep your audience engaged, they have to be constantly feed. This means creating content almost daily that is going to maximize engagement and interactions. As a filmmaker, the quantity of the content you put out is lower in comparison. I’m willing to sacrifice quantity and the amount of content I create in order to truly go after these dreams that I have.
