Meet Tyronne Murphy of Murph The Barber in Mableton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyronne Murphy.

Tyronne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Chicago, where young men was set up to lose, I jumped off the porch young so I grew up around the gang members, Well half my family were gang members so it was kinda inevitable. My dad was in my life growing up, that is how I learned to cut hair, not because he was good at it and he taught me, but because he was bad at it and me and my brother was tired of the bad cuts. I got my first set of hair clippers and my brother was my mannequin, that is when I found out I love to cut hair.

When I was twelve years old my mom decided to get us out of Chicago for multiple reason, the main reason is just to have a better life. We touched down in Cobb County, Georgia, my grandma had moved here already and she said it was nice, it was COUNTRY!! Big culture shock from where I grew up. It was hard for me to fit in at first, I still had the Chicago mentality. After a couple of years of living in Mableton I was use to it, I was still cutting my brother head and my own at that point, we didn’t have money for the barbershops. I was messing up his head and my own head!! We went to school looking crazy sometimes!!

It took alot of practice and patience to learn to cut hair, I’m self-taught. When word traveled that I can cut hair I started cutting my friends, my brother friends, and my mom friends, I thought I was somebody at 16 when people wanted their haircut by me. Growing up I was getting better and better, I was cutting more of my friends heads so I set up a little cutting area at a house I was renting in Austell. I wanted to work in a shop and make more money, I felt like I was ready. So after working at two different shops that wasn’t a good fit for me a friend introduced me to the owners of Furious Styles Mableton, I knew this was the spot for me. I went to high school 5 mins from the shop and still knew everybody in the area, so everybody supported me. I don’t think people knew how good I got with the hair cutting because after a few cuts my name was ringing as a good barber, and I took off from there. I started off at zero clients coming into Furious Styles May 2018, Now I’m one of the tops barbers in the area and i owe it all to my clients and Furious Styles for the opportunity. My work ethics and consistency helps me stand out from other barbers.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not, every road has a bump in it. Like I said early moving to Georgia was a culture shock, I didn’t adapt to well. I got in a lot of trouble growing up in GA, in and out of jail back to back, I was just trying to get some money. When we first moved here my mom took a major pay cut, so we were in survival mode for a long time. We moved from house to house and even been homeless staying in extended stays, But me and my mom stayed strong. The biggest lesson for me was when I went to prison for four years for Burglary, it taught me discipline and I got a lot of practice in cutting hair. I was released February 2016, I was so motivated to cut hair and just be great , I made it my #1 priority to be a great barber

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Murph The Barber story. Tell us more about the business.

I will keeping learning and adding new services, and ill keep pushing my brand til everybody knows who I am.
