Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyshianna Jackson.
Hi Tyshianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started a “Journal” line for black women. I’ve noticed that a lot of black women have experienced being ignored, overlooked, unbelievable and often called “aggressive” when we’re being ASSERTIVE”. Some of us feel that our grievances are unheard. I know this to be true because I’ve experienced the same adversities. Sometimes talking to people doesn’t help, sometimes we don’t want to talk to everyone about our obstacles because some people just don’t care! I found that journaling and writing down my daily thoughts, ideas, affirmations, experiences, and troubles have subsided my anxiety. And KNOWING that my journal won’t become a judge, a running mouth or a gossiper makes me more comfortable with expressing myself and my feelings freely. Black women are taught to be strong and resilient, but who’s going to be strong for us? Who can we run to? 1 in 3 black women have anxiety and depression and don’t know or how to handle it. The “Melanated Matters Of The Heart.” journal helps by including daily affirmations & positive manifestations for the Melanated Minds
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been struggles. Not knowing who to turn to, not knowing who trust, not knowing who was actually on my side. Dealing with infidelity and abuse, I had a mental breakdown. There were a series of unfortunate events happening while I was battling with myself. I remembered how it felt to write in my journal as a teenager and how relieved I’d feel after letting my frustrations out on paper. The road has been a bumpy one for sure but well worth the ride after seeing the outcome.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very witty, happy go lucky child and teenager. Of course, I was into a bit of mischief lol but I mean who wasn’t? My interests included but were not limited to writing, singing, dancing, and of course being with peers and family.
